Quote:Angle: Two American cities under Sharia law Nevada GOP Senate nominee Sharron Angle told a crowd of Tea Party rally-goers last week that two cities — Dearborn, Michigan and Frankford, Texas — are under Sharia law, the sacred law of Islam. “We're talking about a militant terrorist situation, which I believe isn't a widespread thing, but it is enough that we need to address, and we have been addressing it,” Angle said according to audio of the rally obtained by the Washington post. “My thoughts are these. First of all, Dearborn, Michigan, and Frankford, Texas, are on American soil, and under Constitutional law. Not Sharia law. And I don't know how that happened in the United States.” The problem? Well, Frankford, Texas doesn’t really exist. CNN went to Texas to investigate. Dallas annexed the city in 1975 and all that remains is a church and cemetery, as a camera crew for CNN’s John King USA found out when they visited on Friday. Dearborn Mayor Jack O’Reilly told the Associated Press that Angle’s comments were “shameful” and “totally irresponsible.” Angle’s campaign did not respond to CNN’s request for a comment.

Quote:Last week at a rally in Nevada, a man asked Republican Senate candidate Sharron Angle for her thoughts on Muslims "taking over a city in Michigan and the residents of the city, they want them out." Angle responds that “we’re talking about a militant terrorist situation, which I believe it isn’t a widespread thing, but it is enough that we need to address, and we have been addressing it.” “My thoughts are these, first of all, Dearborn, Michigan, and Frankford, Texas, are on American soil, and under constitutional law. Not Sharia law. And I don’t know how that happened in the United States,” she said. “It seems to me there is something fundamentally wrong with allowing a foreign system of law to even take hold in any municipality or government situation in our United States.” Dearborn, a Detroit suburb, has a large Arab and Muslim population, but it is in no way governed by Sharia law. The claim seems to be based on an incident in which Christian proselytizers were arrested for disorderly conduct while filming themselves preaching to Muslims at the Dearborn Arab International Festival in June. They were later acquitted by a Dearborn jury, so we're not sure where the Sharia law comes into play. "If she wants to come here, I will take her on a tour," says totally Muslim-sounding mayor Jack O’Reilly. "I will show her we follow the Constitution just as well as anyone else.” As for Frankford, according to the AP, "It was not immediately clear why Angle singled out Frankford, Texas, a former town that was annexed into Dallas around 1975," especially since it doesn't exist anymore.
