QUESTIONABLEQUESTIONALITY

There is wisedom with age. Sometimes. I come from a family where the men die in their 50's and the women in their 100's.

I started a thread about the Obama admin(which is easy to say but in reality it is the congress) not giving a COLA raise to the seniors. Which "I" feel is wrong(if food and gas was included in the cola I could agree). Make a promise-keep a promise. "A man is only as good as his word" is what I've heard from women my whole life. I tend to agree.

My Grandfather bought their home in 1951. She has never had to pay mortgage just taxes since his death. I went to visit her this morning, because we check on her and her dogs(she lives alone with 2 daushounds). I asked her about SS. She had an answer that was enlightening to me. It was a ten minute conversation, and she was raised in Mass, so she talks fast. This is what I got from it. I find it disturbing.

She thought SS was a fantastic idea. Then they had all the baby boomers and it seemed to make sense(finance wise), however, on the home front there was a push(after SO many babyboomers) to slow down the # of children born(What was happening in China was used in he media) and the pill, abortion etc. were used and sold and it made sense with no-one thinking about SS.
She had reservations when the media started talking in the late 70's that it was unsustainable.

She has no problem with not getting the increase and says it is not fair for her great grandchildren to spend the money they could be saving for their retirement on her. She said "It is easy to plan looking forward in ones generation, but impossible to plan on what the next generation will do, that was our mistake","You've got to pay as you go".
