Freakin National Weather Service...

Ok, look, I gotta keep on top of local weather conditions, if naught else but to make sure my people are properly geared for the conditions they may encounter, right ?

Thing is, the NWS report for local conditions is 90%+ of the time, grossly, if not wholly, inaccurate, to the point where rolling a handful of fekkin DICE would generate a more accurate assessment, I mean even BLIND LUCK would be more accurate - it's a running joke in the office now "NWS says it won't rain.." *cue laughter and a dash for the raincoats*...

But no, that ain't what pisses me off, predicting Nature is a tricky business, she does what she does without much care for what we think, right ?
Nah, it's that they go BACK, AFTER THE FACT, and edit their "prediction" to reflect what actually occurred, and then crow about how "accurate" their so-called "forecast" is !!

Well shit, by THAT standard, *I* can "predict" the LOTTERY with 100% "accuracy" can't I now ?

I know this, that's one more budget cut *I* will NOT be opposing, should it ever come to the question.

Above all things, I loathe incompetence.

You might want to try www.wunderground.com. (Short for Weather Underground. Only a 60's person would understand!) The nice thing about wunderground is that they not only take data from the nearest airport, they also take data from PWS (private weather stations) and their forecasts are more "granular" (tuned to local conditions, not regions). Been checking them versus www.weather.com. Wunderground so far has the advantage.

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

My favorite was the day the local weather perv (and seriously, why is it that every single time a local news station "celeb" is arrested for kiddy porn, it's the weather guy?) insisted that there was "not even a CHANCE of any rain in the Austin area today!" Bear in mind, this is a station that reaches 30-40 miles out from Austin, and he was showing his map of the whole area, and not a disturbance in sight.

And I turned to my window, because I was dripping wet from taking the dogs out, and sure enough, it was still pouring rain, so it wasn't just a fluke shower - it was a full-on thunderstorm! And it rained for a couple hours that morning. And I'm less than 3 miles from their "premium" weather station where they take their metro readings...

Priceless.

Really,if you want to know what the whether's like, look outside; it will give you a clearer picture.

Well, while Weather Underground has by far a more accurate forecast...

They also have a self-refreshing popup that tries to force-install Malware, and it IS spawning off their site, as my security directly flags it and prevents it's repeated refresh attempts - also appeared they tried to stealth it by having it pop behind the active window, as well.

Doesn't happen EVERY time, so it's prolly via one of their advertisers, but still, once again the cozy relationship between site operators, advertisers, and malware producers, illustrates why they got NO fekkin right to whinge about people using ad and script blockers to defend themselves from that shite.

Ergo, accurate forecast or not, their site can kiss my arse.

Yeah, so's mine - but it alerts me anyway, in detail, cause it's the principle of the thing, you know, and I don't wanna support any site that stoops to that kind of thing.
