I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

I don't think that anyone should be barred from contributing to a political party or expressing a personal opinion as a condition of employment, and that applies to Juan Williams as well as Keith Olbermann. Unfortunately, while the Constitution protects your right of free speech and association from intrusion by government, it doesn't protect your rights from being stifled by a corporation. IMHO the Bill of Rights should protect everyone from ANY intrusion (into your free speech, right to privacy etc.) whether that is intrusion comes from your government, your telecom, your employer, or your neighbor.

I don't know, Sig...while I believe in free speech, the idea that a private enterprise can't set up its own rules and regulations and take whatever actions it deems necessary when one of its employees breaks those rules seems fair to me. There are enough outlets for free speech, and organizations such as MSNBC, NPR and Fox allow quite a BIT of free speech on "their" side, that I feel it balances out. It's not like anyone considers any of them as objective, so punishing people for reflecting their bias seems a bit wrong to me. I wish they had more representation of BOTH sides, with equal free speech for all of them, but that's not going to happen.

Have you ever considered that maybe you "think" that way because it's in your programming? Maybe your vision of "freedom" is just your own slave programming telling you that one type of slavery is "freedom", and another type of freedom is "slavery". ;)

As to free speech. It's not absolute; we've already long established that. I don't have the right to walk by a SWAT standoff and yell "FIRE!" at the assembled heavily-armed policemen with their sights trained on the perp.

I also don't have the free speech right to call my boss a fucking cunt in front of our customers. I *can* say that, and I can't be jailed for that, but there's no guarantee I can't be fired for doing so.

Olbermann didn't break any laws; he broke company policies. As I've pointed out, such a thing would not have been a problem at FauxNews, because it seems they have no policies or rules regarding ethics. ;)
