Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

OK - I admit, I got nuthin'. I have some fair ones (like the one below) but I am at best a mediocre cook. But I bet there are some pretty good ones out there.

Sweet and savory sweet potatoes

take a weight of mixed cleaned, cut and baked yams and sweet potatoes
an equal weight of chopped onions sauteed in olive oil
and an equal weight of diced celery sauteed in olive oil

and mix together with some salt, pepper, thyme and sage, and a handful of raisins. It sounds weird, but it is frakkin' good.

So, anyone got any good recipes?

Like woman, I am a mystery.

My dad taught me how to make some truly badass queso dip.

Take a block of Velveeta (slice into smaller cubes first), a regular-sized jar of Hot Pace Picante salsa, a block of cream cheese and a package of Jimmy Dean's spicy pork sausage (brown first) and add them all into a crock pot and warm until melted. Guaranteed to tingle your taste buds and stick firmly to your ribs.

He's also got an amazing lasagna recipe that I don't remember off the top of my head.

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

I got a lovely, simple, QUICK one from Choey which we eat at least twice a week.

Two chicken breast, skinned, boned and cut up in bite-sized pieces. Dump in bowl w/whatever bar-b-que sauce you like, to marinate while you chop the veggies.

One large onion, sliced.
One red bell pepper, sliced
(I also use an orange and yellow sometimes (w/extra onion), just for fun)
As much garlic as you want, chopped

Stir-fry chicken (w/sauce),remove. Stir-fry remaining ingredients, remove. Either mix all together or put in separate bowls so each person can decide how much they want.

Voila. Takes about 20 minutes from start to finish, and if you rotate the bar-b-que sauces, it's doable a buncha times and different each.

We LOVE that stuff! Feeds about three, depending on your appetite!

DREAMTROVE

Cookies.

2 eggs
1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup brown sugar
(or 1 cup sugar and a tablespoon molasses)
1 teaspoon baking soda (mixed in with the sugar)
1/2 teaspoon salt (mixed in with the sugar)
5/8 stick butter, melted, but allowed to cool
(or about 1/3 cup oil)
2 teaspoons orange or 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
add sifted flour slowly and stir until it is no longer dripping off the fork, but not yet solid.

Bake at 325 deg F until done. Keep checking on them.

If you put in too much flour, then the result will be cookies, but when they cool, they will harden like rocks.

If you put in not enough flour, then the cookies will spread into a thing caramelly goo on the cookie tin.

You can't have an accurate measure for the flour because you can't predict the size of the eggs or the density with which the flour is packed.

Check flour for weevils before starting It's an important part, because fried weevils are crunchy, and actually, you really don't want them in your cookies, almost as much as they don't want to be in your cookies.

FREMDFIRMA

Easy.

Requires:

1 lb of Cocoa Powder.
1 stick of unsalted butter.
2 Eggs.
1/2 cup water.
1 Toothpick.

Pre-heat oven to 350F
Melt butter.

Dump water into bowl first, then crack eggs into water, pour cocoa powder on top, then dump the melted butter in and mix immediately and briskly with wire whisk till well mixed.
(This makes it WAY easier to mix, without that whole dry stuff stuck to the sides problem.)

Pour into any pan around 8-9" you got on hand, shove into oven and give it forty minutes or so depending on how well your oven works, and I presume you know what the freakin toothpick is for.

Quick, cheap, easy - damn tasty too.
*munch munch*

1 bowl.

1 gallon of milk.

1 box of cereal.

Put cereal in bowl.

Pour milk over cereal.

Grab a spoon.

Use spoon to scoop cereal to mouth.

(That about as good as my recipes get... my wife does all the cooking...)

Cause, well, it's funny.
That and my ex started a damn kitchen fire trying to make TEA, seriously, WTF?!

The real horror is that Rev and Me have been rooked into T-day dinner over there, and not only are we conniving to prevent her ill-advised attempts to help cook, BOTH of us are bringing portable fire extinguishers!
