Actually, PN, if this is a screed against bombing Libya, I agree with you. HOWEVER, you have to realize that what you call "the liberal press" and the actual liberal press are entirely different. The REAL liberal press is either very much against the bombing of Libya or cautiously neutral.

The MSM and Obama are no more liberal than GE and Goldman Sachs allow them to be.

If this is a screed about information control.. well.. yes, information has been controlled for as long as I can remember.

So I'm gonna start a thread about Libya, because nobody will read YOUR posts.

Im used to PN not knowing the meaning of the word "banned" but it surprises me to see the filmmaker do so as well. For that group to choose not to screen the film isn't banning it. For someone to get such a basic concept wrong makes me wonder on the validity of their argument in the film.

The corporate-controlled media has a history of hiding things that are in plain sight: the Fukushima disaster, the banker's war against Libya. It is very difficult to get a clear picture of what is going on and what is important when so much is obscured.

Perhaps, but choosing not to show something is not banning it. They are not preventing him or others from showing it elsewhere. Simple word usage. Plain as that. The meaning of a word does not change because someone likes to misuse it.

OTOH... a widespread "choice" not to show something is the functional equivalent of a ban. Speech is only as free as the money you need to make your point heard.

Nah, you wanna watch something that'd REALLY wind up some of our fucking warmongers ?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valley_of_the_Wolves:_Iraq

And make no mistake, this *IS*, abso-fuckin-lutely, how most nations in the middle east perceive us and our behavior, often with damn good cause.

Sure, it's a bit low quality and over the top, but it's also a damn valuable pyschological insight into the minds of our reluctant and often abused "allies" over there - and for that reason alone oughta be required watching for our command staff so they know what they have to overcome in order to gain actual support beyond lip service and avoid said reluctant allies turning on us because they feel we're a greater threat...

Cause you see how well chugging ideological kool-aid worked out for them, cause the locals seem to be throwing bullets, rather than flowers, and gee I WONDER why - perhaps it could something to do with that our ACTUAL behavior is in fact a lot closer to this film than the propaganda pieces cranked up by hollywood with the avid support and assistance of the pentagon, hmmm ?

And maybe we should look to that, instead of training our troops in a way that encourages racism, intolerance, and dehumanization of the people they're supposedly over there to save from themselves, a ludicrous idea on the face of it, as well as in practice.

Not with current technology. You might have heard of the internet?

And would you have this organization screen the film by force? What would that be the functional equivalent of?

Bombing Libya ? What are you even talking about ? Obama said that kinetic operation would be over in days, not weeks. That was months ago, right? So it's long since complete.

Sheesh. Earth to Sig. Wake up already. Stop living in teh past. DUH !

'The War You Don't See' now available online worldwide following US ban

In an extraordinary alliance of TV and cinema, John Pilger's new film, 'The War You Don't See', opened in the UK mid-December. Having premiered at The Barbican on Tuesday 7 December 2010, the first Pilger film since 2007 started its UK run at Curzon Soho in London on Sunday 12 December.

On Tuesday 14 December, ITV1 broadcast 'The War You Don't See' at 10.35pm and on Sunday 10 April 2011, the Australian broadcaster SBS aired the film nationally. The DVD is now available to buy in the UK and in Australia.

On 7 June 2011, the Lannan Foundation in the United States banned the film and cancelled a US visit by John Pilger without explanation but the film is available to watch online (worldwide excluding Australia) for $4.99

'The War You Don't See' was nominated for the 'Documentary Award' at the 2011 One World Media Awards.

The film is a powerful and timely investigation into the media's role in war, tracing the history of 'embedded' and independent reporting from the carnage of World War One to the destruction of Hiroshima, and from the invasion of Vietnam to the current war in Afghanistan and disaster in Iraq. As weapons and propaganda become even more sophisticated, the nature of war is developing into an 'electronic battlefield' in which journalists play a key role, and civilians are the victims. But who is the real enemy?

John Pilger says in the film: "We journalists... have to be brave enough to defy those who seek our collusion in selling their latest bloody adventure in someone else's country... That means always challenging the official story, however patriotic that story may appear, however seductive and insidious it is. For propaganda relies on us in the media to aim its deceptions not at a far away country but at you at home... In this age of endless imperial war, the lives of countless men, women and children depend on the truth or their blood is on us... Those whose job it is to keep the record straight ought to be the voice of people, not power."

Rappy, do you think you're going to get me to defend Obama when he behaves like Bush?

It's a concept you can't EVER seem to grasp, no matter how many times it's pointed out to you, and depsite the fact that YOU keep tripping over it, day after day after day...
