Headline over on CNN.com

Federal appeals court rules individual mandate in healthcare bill constitutional.

I'm a good lefty, and I don't see it, myself. I agree that it may be a necessary condition for healthcare reform to work, but it's the first time that the government has ruled that a private citizen must engage in private commerce for private profit.

Watch the Supreme Court overrule it. Any court that makes corproations "people" won't stand for an individual mandate. I don't like the mandate either, but I, too, recognize that it's the only way reform will work. Not holding my breath it won't be overturned, tho'.

So now we are born into slavery, thanks to ObamaCare.

There are at least 30 different judges ruling this unConstitutional. 1, is for it.

I hope and pray that the Supreme Court shuts this monster down.

A co-worker of mine, who is not politically sophisticated, came up with a simple solution: Let anybody who wants to, sign up for Medicare, with all of its benefits and flaws, same coverage, same rates and qualifiers, only at whatever age. Set a monthly premium, of course, so it's not FREE, but paid to the government. Then you get exactly what Medicare gets, only by free choice. Doctors, hospitals, etc., can participate or not, as they choose. Ya want better, faster, more coverage, non network doctors, you can go buy it, or insurance for it, on the free market.
Only objection I can think of is that simple idea has no chance of getting passed.

Unfortunately, I think you're right. Medicare for All is the simplest, most logical answer, but it ain't gonna happen.

Regarding Medicare itself, I put up a thread about a (hold onto your hat) COMPROMISE idea which I think has some really good points to it. Has about as much chance of getting any traction as Medicare for All, of course. Your friend shows something we all should know: Common sense trumps politics every time...

DREAMTROVE

I hope the Supreme Court will overturn it.

I suspect the mandate will be overturned, but they will find other ways of making you pay.

That's what a ship is, you know - it's not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, that's what a ship needs.
