The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee responded Friday to a scathing letter from a top executive at Koch Industries, Inc., who blasted the group after he was solicited for campaign contributions.

Philip Ellender, president for government and public affairs at Koch Industries, a frequent Democratic target, said he received a letter and voicemail from DSCC Chair Patty Murray in June. He posted the audio from the voicemail on KochFacts.com, a website dedicated to defending the influential conservative Koch brothers - David and Charles.

Embarrassing for Murray, certainly, but that much vitriol over a mistake? Speaks volumes!

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

I don't think that was a mistake. I think it was a poke at them, and it worked, because someone flipped out about it and blew up, making the Koch Bros. and their organization look worse and more petulant than they already look, which is saying something!

Here's the response the DSCC sent back to the Koch exec:

Quote:

Dear Phil:
Thank you for your genuine, heartfelt concern about our recent solicitation and your request for clarification. Indeed, the form letter and follow-up solicitation you received was a staff error.
However, the bigger and more troubling mistake is the long political history of your employer, the Koch Brothers. As a (former?) Democrat, perhaps your time would be better spent looking into their efforts to privatize Social Security or their opposition to expanding the children's health insurance program. Or maybe, you can post a list of all of the anonymous contributions they have made to right-wing smear campaigns across the country. If you'd like to share voicemails from all the shady groups asking you for millions of dollars, we'd happily listen to those as well.
So, I write to make it clear that your invitation was an error and has been rescinded.
Sincerely,
Guy Cecil
Executive Director
Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee
P.S.: I was impressed how quickly you responded, given how often you must be on the phone with Governor Walker of Wisconsin.

Oh man, that's some admittedly petty, but very damn amusing ownage goin on there.
There's merit to taking the high road, but I can certainly understand the temptation, when someone hands you their own ass on a silver platter, to kick it just for spite, oh yes.

On that note, because of their lack of true understanding of the rest of humanity, it's actually quite easy to bait sociopaths into humiliating themselves - which is a tactic worth looking into cause ridicule is a very potent weapon for breaking the political power of such scumbags.

And yes, I consider most business-empire moguls to be sociopaths, as it's damn near a job requirement given how tremendously our society rewards that behavior, both financially and otherwise.
