DREAMTROVE

Have apparently introduced a balanced budget amendment in exchange for letting the admin borrow 2.4 trillion.

It won't fly.

In other news, remember me saying that a dollar was worth about a franc? Try about 4/5 of a franc. Dollar plummets to all time low.

The dollar is now at 0.80 was at 1.20 when Obama took office, and 1.40 when Bush took office, about the same for Clinton and Bush Sr., and much higher. The current fall started just about a year ago. (1.60-1.80 when reagan took office. It shot up to 2.80 or so under the strong dollar policy, but was down by the time he left office. Against, similar story with clinton. No up years in the 21st century for the dollar though.)

I went to ebay and their default page was "buy gold on ebay minerals" or some such. That's almost a sure sign that the price of gold has topped, ergo, dollar bottomed, but long term, worrisome.

Meanwhile, here's Obama's side of the story, I was kinda mixed on it:

That's what a ship is, you know - it's not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, that's what a ship needs.

That's funny, DT; they cited one of the same polls as I found to respond to you in the other post.

Me, I agree with him as far as it goes:
Quote:

President Obama on Friday pointed to polls to argue that his proposal of a "balanced approach" on a debt deal - one that includes revenue increases as well as spending cuts - is what the American people want.

"My Republican friends have said that they're not willing to do revenues, and they have repeated that on several occasions," he told reporters at a news conference at the White House. "My hope, though, is that they're listening not just to lobbyists or special interests here in Washington, but they're also listening to the American people. Because it turns out, poll after poll, many done by your organizations, show that it's not just Democrats who think we need to take a balanced approach, it's Republicans as well."

A Gallup poll released Wednesday found that only 20 percent of Americans support a deal that only includes spending cuts, something Republicans have insisted on. Another 30 percent wanted a deal that was "mostly" spending cuts, and 32 percent wanted a deal split equally between spending cuts and tax increases. Eleven percent favored a deal that was mostly or all tax increases.

"The clear majority of Republican voters think that any deficit reduction package should have a balanced approach and should include some revenues," Mr. Obama said. "That's not just Democrats. That's the majority of Republicans." (That Gallup poll found that only one in four Republicans favor a deal that is only spending cuts.)

So where did Roberts get her figures, I'd still like to know?

Of coure, they're NOT listening to the American people, but to "lobbyists or special interests"--and most of all, to the extreme right-wing contingent of their party, of whom they appear to be deathly afraid. Go figger.
Quote:

"Let's let the American people decide," said Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, on Fox News Sunday.
What a laugh! Like they give a shit what the "American people" want!
