The Reagan example is a bad one for many reasons but I think the most significant is the different reaction of the FED under Paul Volcker at the time. Instead of cutting interest rates to zero he actually raised rates resulting in a political backlash that no one seems able to stomach today. I personally would probably support tax increases that were a part of comprehensive tax reform. Its just pointless at this time to raise taxes until we get our fiscal house in order. Giving more money to a drug addict because they're staving to death will only result in their quicker demise.
