Quote: WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — The International Association of Machinists has dropped a charge that Boeing Co. built a non-union 787 aircraft assembly plant in retaliation for a 2008 strike, the National Labor Relations Board said Friday. The NLRB, the U.S. agency responsible for safeguarding workers’ rights, approved the withdrawal and considers the high-profile case closed. It became a major talking point on regulations for anti-union Republicans, and last month they tried to strip the NLRB of some of its power. But the case dismissed after workers approved a four-year labor contract earlier this week that guaranteed Boeing would not try to build a second assembly facility for its popular 737 in a non-union state. With more than 2,400 unfilled orders, the backlog for the 737 is three times the size of the 787’s, and ensures decades worth of work. “The case was always about the loss of future jobs in the Seattle area,” said NLRB acting general counsel Lafe Solomon, on a call with reporters. “This agreement has resolved that issue. There is job security in the Washington area.” In an earlier statement, Boeing said the four-year contract was a balanced agreement that ensures the company will remain competitive. Shares of Boeing BA +2.14% rose 2% in recent trading to $71.64 each. For the year, the stock is up about 11%. With the new labor contract, Boeing has secured its South Carolina 787 facility, which began operations in July.

The govt is now being used as leverage for the unions vs the private sector ? A complete misuse of govt to serve, not the people, but solely suck up to their union contributing base. Unfuckinbelievable.
