... fully loaded, safety off...

People just want to be free...everywhere.

Next Russian march/protest Dec 24th IF demands are not met. So far no arrests or violence.

This is shaping up to be far more interesting and with far greater global impact than the US presidential race imho.

Putin seems like just another in the line of Big Bad Men, and the majority of the world seem to be saying, "we're done with them, we're done with Individual rulers." I just don't see him going quietly.

"Tens of thousands of Russians took to the streets in Moscow on Saturday shouting “Putin is a thief” and “Russia without Putin,” forcing the Kremlin to confront a level of public discontent that has not been seen here since Vladimir V. Putin first became president 12 years ago."
"The crowd overflowed from a central city square, forcing stragglers to climb trees or watch from the opposite riverbank. “We exist!” they chanted. “We exist!”"

I love this:
"Younger protesters — so digitally connected that they broadcast the event live by holding iPads over their heads — said this was a day when a group that had been silent made itself heard."

I see a revolutionary poster in this somewhere.

“People are just tired, they have already crossed all the boundaries,” said Yana Larionova, 26, a real estate agent. “You see all these people who are well dressed and earn a good salary, going out onto the streets on Saturday and saying, ‘No more.’ That’s when you know you need a change.”

Even more interesting:

utin-in-russian-presidential-election.html?ref=world

"The billionaire, Mikhail D. Prokhorov, who owns shares in a major gold mining company and an array of other ventures in Russia as well as the New Jersey Nets basketball franchise in the United States, said he would run for president, challenging Prime Minister Vladimir V. Putin."

Prokhorov is the modern face of Russia (the future), Putin is the past. Wonder how he would view Iran? China?

Church joins in election reform:

“It is evident that the secretive nature of certain elements of the electoral system concerns people, and there must be more public control over this system,” said Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin, the most prominent spokesman for the church, in remarks to a widely followed Orthodox news Web site. “We must decide together how to do this through civilized public dialogue.”

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Yeah, I've been hearing about this one, and yes, I fully agree: THIS is a real world event; our presidential race, thus far, has been a circus not nearly worthy of the same interest. Will be curious to see how this turns out...
