In my opinion, his refusing to congratulate Romney or even concede the primary shows just what an ass Gingrich is...a walking ego, and little more.

The only thing that will keep Newt Gingrich running past Florida is ego.

It's no great surprise that Gingrich lost Florida. He was dead from the moment that he clammed up in the Florida debates -- and the millions that Mitt Romney poured into the state in negative ads didn't help either. A lesser man would be crushed by this result. But Gingrich isn't just a man. He's a visionary, a historian, the inventor of supply side economics, a space marine and a latter-day Casanova. I'm getting all this off the back of one of his DVDs (just kidding).

Newt has promised to soldier on right up to the Republican National Convention in late August. To be fair, he has good cause to keep running. Gingrich is leading in the national polls, and only 5% of the total delegates have been selected thus far, so there's still a lot in play.
.....
In short, just about the only thing that will propel Gingrich through to the national convention is ego. But that ego is large enough to have a gravitational pull of its very own -- so don't expect to see Newt stop now. http://www.cnn.com/2012/01/31/opinion/stanley-gingrich-florida/index.h

Does amuse me to watch both he and Santorum determined to fight on, tho'...the convention ought to be fun to watch.

I'v heard comparisons to the Obama/Clinton battle for the nomination, but from what I've seen, there is little comparison...this is all-out war, and I can't imagine Newt giving up with anything like the class Hillary did. Fun to watch the GOP eat its own, but disgusting to see this example of walking hubris acting like a spoiled child...I guess he has that big head for a reason...

I hope everyone is sitting down, and not leaning too far back in your chairs...

I agree, 100%.

* Though, I will add, Newt DOES have a brilliant mind. So, there is that. But his ego blocks out most of his better attributes.

This is scary...I put up TWO posts you like? I even agree with you that Gingrich is one damned bright fellah; it's just too bad his ego/temper/lack of conscience gets in the way...

I think I'll quit while I'm ahead, and go do something constructive.

Y'all see the clip that was on the daily show where Gingrich says "I pledge my life and my fortune and my ...something else(couldn't hear what)... to this country and Jon Stewart says "Ohhh, I think he just asked us to marry him..."

Whata putzy speech...The one thing I've always given Obama is that at least when he speaks he doesn't sound lika giant dork. Bush constantly made me cringe, I don't think his brain knew what a filter was, let alone how to use one...

Putzy speech or not, Newt does understand the significant danger the Founders faced as they put pen to paper and signed the DOI. By doing so, they were effectively signing their death warrants, should the revolution fail. I think that's the spirit Newt was attempting to capture, and a mind set too few Americans ( sadly ) relate to, failing to even comprehend key aspects of US history.

Hee, hee, hee...I remember all too well. At least THAT's over, thank goodness. I rarely listen to what Presidents have to say, it's all politics and usually has little meaning. But the few times I heard or saw clips of Bush speaking, I shuddered.

Hubbs thinks we need to bring back putting our politicians on trial after they have served their terms(Romans used to do that??). I think THAT is a spirit I could get behind
