"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

Quote:

WASHINGTON - Mitt Romney's wife is reinforcing her husband's refusal to make public more of his of tax returns, saying "we've given all you people need to know" about the family's finances.
Ann Romney tells ABC News she thinks the Obama campaign's attacks on her husband have been "beneath the dignity of the presidency." And she says people will decide whom to vote for based on whether their lives would be better under Mitt Romney than President Barack Obama.
She says she believes voters are "going to fire the coach."

How many years of back tax returns did super-rich guy John Kerry disclose when he ran for Prez? I'd say whatever the number Romney should match it. No more, no less. I can't remember that subject ever even coming up back then, but when you're a completely failed Prez I guess you and your media sluts have few other options.

How many presidents before were hounded for years about their birth certificates?

And Kerry release five years of his tax returns.

Will Romney match it?

The basic difference is that Romney is RUNNING on his acumen as a businessman, which none of the others that I'm aware of have done, and that because of that, he could fix the country. It's not about how rich he is, it's about his claims regarding his being a great businessman. Ergo, it's appropriate.

And yes, different candidates get focused on for different reasons. In Obama's case, it was his birth certificate; in Romney's, his tax returns. So what?

And of COURSE Ann Romney has to say such things; she's her husband's surrogate. That's all she CAN say.

if the quote is accurate, it sounds a little bit arrogant on her part.

'Member when Ross Perrot went to the NAACP, and said, "You people need to help yourselves." ? And just like that, he was done for. 'Cause "you people" means, "You ain't like me, or US, the folks whose interest I care about."

Gettin' right up there with Marie Antoinette saying, "Let them eat cake."

Over the course of his various runs, he has released a total of 20 years of tax returns (he released 5 years worth when he ran for Prez, but had already previously released the others during senatorial runs).

So, yeah, Romney should be held to that standard. Works for me.

Note to anyone - Please pity the poor, poor wittle Rappyboy. He's feeling put upon lately, what with all those facts disagreeing with what he believes.

Quote is accurate. Straight from the horse's mouth, as they say.

Congrats, NewOld, I was wondering if/when anyone would pick up on that. Her statement is condescending, to say the least, and definitel puts her and Romney in a "different class" than the rest of us. I know she was speaking to the press, but it's not just the press who wants to see the tax returns, so it DID come across condescending and classist, to me (and I have no doubt, to others as well).
