Sad to say, I missed (most of) y'all.

I spent the time I would have been here catching up on TV shows and hanging out with people over at serenitymovie.org. They have a special thread just for when FFF.NET goes down:

Maybe next time I will see you over there.

Anyway, what has everyone else been up to?

Yes, thank gawd! I never realized HOW addicted I was until these past few days. I know this represents my only real "socialization" nowadays, but I didn't realize it also represents a lot of my "intellectual stimulation" and how much I would miss my friends. Freaked me out when it went past a day--I caught some mention of Fox wanting to shut it down a while back, and wondered if they'd succeeded.

Thanx for the link, I'll bookmark it. I've been pretty lost the past few days, since this is the first place I come to every day. Got a lot done (!), but nonetheless felt very lost. Reeeeely glad it's back; thank you from the bottom of my heart, Haken!!

I missed this place, but got lots of productive things done in the downtime.

THIS.

Okay, mind you this is something that goes all the way back to 1995 or so with me - for some people, elderly, disabled, or for whatever reason, the net and/or their online community, it's all they have, really.
And so when some punkass hacker, cyberstalker, or greifer comes along and starts wrecking it up, that is no more "just the internet" than verbal abuse and demeaning is "just words" - it becomes PERSONAL, and folks who do not understand this, fail to comprehend WHY I went after those sumbitches so hard, often get pissy about it or dismissive, that enrages me...

That's an especially sore point with me regarding previous cases in other communities where said sumbitch either took the harrassment offline into their personal lives, or was covertly/tacitly supported by the folks supposed to be protecting and moderating that community - in one specific case even making the sumbitch the moderator of the group they'd been harrassing for years, on purpose, that was especially vile.

But yeah, folks like to PRETEND that the bonds of community formed in text don't mean as much, but to those who have no other way to connect because of distance, disability or age... they DO mean as much, if not more.
And when someone screws with that, it ought to be taken seriously.

Everything you said, Frem; that's how it affected me (without the anger) ;o)

As to moderators, don't get me started! There is a type of person we call a "controller"...the kind that tells you your dog should be on a leash as they walk by, or who takes the time to tell you that you should have done/shouldn't have done this or that or whatever. The types usually end up in SOME kind of authority...if nothing else, as moderators on a forum. I will stop right there or I would start cursing. Suffice it to say, "yes", and when it comes to "moderators",

I've been a moderator. In fact, technically I still am. That was rather hilarious to find out, since it's a site that was last visited sometime in May 2009 (not by me - by ANYBODY).

The admin decided to have a zero-tolerance policy towards "profanity", up to and including banning a fellow moderator without warning for typing the initials "WTF?" Imagine me as a moderator in such an environment. I don't have a "censor" button, either for other people or for myself.

It had been going downhill for a while, as he kept turning the screws tighter and tighter. He's actually a personal friend of mine, or was. That was pretty much the end; the mods bailed out en masse, leaving nothing but a lonely Admin and nobody to Administer to.

What had been *THE* premiere site of its kind became a shell, and was instantly replaced by a new site which has more freedom and more members.

Addiction comes in many forms.

I say as long as your not hurting anyone other than yourself with it, anyone's addiction is fine with me. If you find one that doesn't even hurt yourself at the same time, good on you, really.

My computer was messed up for a few days. Think it caught a nasty virus. After some tinkering I've gotten my internet back. I'd been so accustomed to not having ANY page load up, or at least take forever to load up, that I didn't realize that FFF must have actually been down in some wild coincidence when I got everything else working on my end.

Glad to see it back up.

I got 3 days off after working 7 nights in a row after tonight. I think it's high time I reformat this drive and start from scratch. I HATE that process, but this damn thing runs so slow now and has so many little annoyances that I can't keep avoiding the inevitable by using duct tape and bubble gum to patch it up.
