I'm sure you've seen them before; "man on the street" interviews asking simple questions which it seems the average American can't answer--can't even come CLOSE to answering. Every time I see them, it reminds me how people like Bush got elected--TWICE--and my hopes for our country dim even further. I believe this particular man on the street is British (or Australian?), and it's embarrassing how much stupidity he can find in a very short time:

HOWEVER, it's just possible he was in one of the "red states", given their relative IQs:

I found that terribly amusing.

It's clearly not just red states that have an exclusive on morons.

Alexandra Pelosi has made some hilarious videos skewering both sides, too.

So has Jay Leno. ;)

Yup, there are stupid/ignorant/idiotic people on both sides--notice that the first video is about American citizens, no mention of their party affiliations. It's embarrassing to be shown our own stupidity by a Brit... I just got a kick out of the state IQ comparisons, which are accurate. It explained a lot to me.

But go right ahead, post anything you want; for the record I fully agree there are stupid people on all political sides, and more. Anything you post will give me a giggle (albeit a sad one), so go for it. I will never get used to the fact that there are SO many stupid people in this country...but it does explain for me why this race has been so close, as well as why Dubya was elected TWICE!

Statistically speaking, half the people in this country are in the bottom half, intelligence-wise.

I have an aunt who was an overachiever in school. She went off to college at 17, graduated, went to grad school, got a job teaching at the college, stayed in college, kept taking classes and working in colleges all her life, up until recently, when she retired at 65 and entered "the real world".

She told me she never had any idea that there were people this dumb in America; she'd been shielded from it her entire life, because she was around people who wanted to learn, and people who were smart. Now she understands how Dubya became President, and how people still keep buying into the idea of "trickle-down", which has failed both historically and mathematically to a monumental degree.

This reminds me of one of my favorite Carlin lines

Fifteen percent of Ohio Republicans (like "Hero" here) actually think that Romney deserves more credit for killing Bin Laden than Obama does. 47% more of them "aren't sure" who deserves the credit.

That's a whole new level of dumb, folks.

Yeah, Mike, I heard that bit about bin Laden too, and it blew my mind. Sometimes it feels like I'm "diagonally parked in a parallel universe", as Stephen Wright (my all-time FAVORITE stand-up) once said.

That may help explain my astonishment at the stupidity of so many people, too--until I got on the internet, I rarely was confronted with how IGNORANT so many Americans are about the simplest things. Yeah, I'd seen some "man-on-the-street" stuff, but always figured they edited just to show the stupid ones. Once I got on the internet, I was slightly confused...the past few years of politics has TRULY opened my eyes!

Carlin, tho' I disagree with him sometimes and find him offensive at others, has a knack for distilling things down to the simplest--and most humorous--truths.

As for the idiots around us, including those like Raptor: the problem with the gene pool is that there is no lifeguard (attribution: Stephen Wright).

In your case, Niki, we don't need a life guard.

We need lots and lots of chlorine.

Oh, wait... I think Carl just saved Kwickie !

Australian. It's was part of a popular show here. I apologise for the American mocking, but it was kind of funny. I'm sure a voxpop here would show equal stupidity.

I think you can find legitimately stupid (or uninformed) people everywhere.

I note for the record that if you get a college degree you are more likely to be a Republican. But the margin is small and the demographics inconsistant and vary by election meaning that the results for 1996 are skewed Democrat but in Republican years they are skewed Republican.

I also thing that it depends on the Degree. I suspect that if you have a degree in business then you are most likely Republican, but if your degree is on Philosophy or something equally interesting but worthless...you'd be a Democrat.

The truth is there is really no difference between the intellegence or educational background of the average voter. While you might find specific differences...I think we can all agree that there are some really smart folks on both sides.

Your problem is your not looking at intelligence or education...your concerned with political views. Since the liberals are unable to intellectually win their political arguments they give up and simply label their opponants as "stupid" as in "too stupid to agree with us" or "too stupid to understand that we are right and they are wrong". It's similar to saying someone is unpatriotic if they don't agree with you (something Republicans did after 9/11 and Democrats are doing now on the tax issue).

H

Hero...must be right on all of this. ALL of the rest of us are wrong. Chrisisall, 2012

Ahhhh, blatant generalities. Ain't they fun? Raptor could have done better, certainly more vituperatively.

Yeah... hard to believe anyone would think you're stupid with such a stunning intellect.

Hey, at least you managed to spell "intelligence" correctly this time, in one out of two tries.

Probably a good thing you don't have to be smart to be a lawyer.

BigDamn, notice the title asks a QUESTION, and mentions "red states", both of which refer to the videos posted, not to my own opinion, get it? No generalities there...

I just had a right-winger angrily tell me:

"You better get used to saying 'Governor' Romney!"

So, yeah....
