"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

Just heard that former Senator Arlen Specter has died.

"I supported Bush in 2000 and 2004 and intellegence [sic] had very little to do with that decision." - Hero

"I was wrong" - Hero, 2012

Mitt Romney, introducing his running mate: "Join me in welcoming the next President of the United States, Paul Ryan!"

Rappy's response? "You're lying, gullible ( believing in some BS you heard on msnbc ) or hard of hearing."

My deepest sympathies to all who suffer from his death; to me, he had a mixed record, but a death is always tragic, however we feel about the person.

This is very sad. He was our DA when we were in Philly many years ago. A most excellent man of principle.

The man just died and deserves respect for serving his country honorably all his life. At least wait a reasonable while before you say anything derogatory about him. That's just common human decency.

Hmmm, better than Reuben's.
..One more.
Ben!
..My last one.
Okay.

Then again, Jongs, look who you're talking to.

You are confusing fact with attack. I never stated how I felt about the single bullet theory.

The fact that Specter started democrat, turned republican and turned back to democrat during his time in Washington is indisputable.

Facts, not attacks.

It's been 72 hours and he's been laid to rest. OK to go for it.

A recent personal favorite:

You never wanted to play golf with him. No matter what direction he hits the ball, it ends up in the hole.

Yep, the magic golf ball was legendary.

Hero...must be right on all of this. ALL of the rest of us are wrong. Chrisisall, 2012

Thank you, Jong. I enjoyed the first one, but it's the second one that really tugged at my heartstrings. The slow-mo take on his facial expression change...Gleason was a genius, his like will never be seen again.

As to expecting any kind of decency from people like Hero, it's a waste of breath.

And yes, Specter WAS a true patriot...and a gentleman. I'm sorry his post-political efforts as a stand-up didn't come to fruition, he had so much to tell us which was hysterical...

From one of my favorite episodes. Mrs. Manicotti sure had some def moves! I don't know how or why someone put that clip together with that song (also one of my favorites), but I'm glad they did.

C'mon, Niki. He was neither a 'patriot' or a 'gentleman'. Seriously. The man was a vulgar, self aggrandizing politician, among the worst examples of what is wrong w/ D.C. in our time.

Oliver Stone threw Arlen Specter under the bus for cinematic eternity in "JFK" when he described the Warren Commission's single bullet theory and conspiracy cover-up as the most heinous lie ever told to the American people.

I don't believe Oswald was the lone gunman, but there's nothing after 50 years to prove it was anything else. So, it's either the greatest shooting skill in history, or the cleanest, most perfect coup d'etat and cover-up in history. I was 10 when it happened. I hope to know the truth before I die.

It was 1 shooter. And far from " the greatest shooting skill in history ".

You've just described Ronald Reagan to a tee. Hell, you've just described the Republican Party!
