It is for brave, young people like this, that we should be fighting for.And I think many of our young soldiers would agree. Some things just shouldn't be allowed to flourish in this world.

I posted this very story. And because of it, I was mocked, scoffed at and called ridiculous names.

For wanting to rid the world of militant Jihadists who'd shoot little girls, I'm called "deeply, deeply sick. ".

There's actually recently been some progress in that local tribes/militias/villages have been standing up to and fighting back against the Talitubbies, which I find to be good news, and I would like to support them...
BUT.
The US has pissed away any hope of ever having any credibility in Afghanistan, between back and forth playing pattycake with warlords, the taliban themselves, the corrupt puppet regime we installed, all that means less than nothing to the villagers cause regimes come and go, end of the day Afghanistan is Afghanistan, and their primary attitude about it is "If we bend our knee to you, will you go away?" cause their loyalty to ANYONE but their own is at best tenuous.

If we come in and support them, they look like collaborators and it would cost them popular support and the respect of their own, the connections they NEED in order to be any kind of effective, and break up the unity they have in disliking the Taliban - worse, it would drive a lot of them back into supporting the Taliban cause the only reason they ever supported these radical dicks in the first place is as a bulwark to foreign interference, first the Soviets, then ours - they prefer "the devil you know" versus the whims of a superpower for cultural and other reasons.
Quote:

Ainullah Khan, a school principal, organized 500 students to fight against Taliban attempts to shut down the schools in the Barkali area of Waigal district, according to Ghulam Hussain, the head of the provincial education department.

"Although they had no weapons or guns, they were able to kick the Taliban out (of their district) and stop them from shutting down schools by using sticks and stones," Hussain said.

Khan was stabbed with a bayonet in three days of fighting but survived. The Taliban no longer has a presence in Barkali.

Simple numbers this - if ENOUGH people want you dead/gone, you BECOME that way, period - and the villagers outnumber the Talitubbies by a HUGE margin.

This is one of those times when we damn well OUGHT to have SENSE enough to leave well the hell enough ALONE, let them get on with it and only poke our nose in if specifically ASKED to by the local authorities, and then with an absolute minimum presence so as not to constitute an implied threat and stir resentment.
Oh, and when they tell you to get the hell OUT, then get the hell OUT, curse it all - Southeast Paktika in particular is a little less than happy with us right now cause of that.

If the Afghans wanna stomp the Taliban in the dirt, let em, if they WANT our help with that they'll damn well ASK for it.

No, you're deeply sick cause you wanna rid the world of anyone Muslim or Middle Eastern, you just don't have the guts to ADMIT it, except when you let it out by accident, mister two-fer-one.

You got no problem with what they're doing, you just gotta problem with who is doing it, cause if your whitebread fundies did crap like this, you'd gobble it right up and reach for the pom-poms.

And THAT, is what people call you on.

That's not remotely my position, and you know it. And hell, if you DON'T know it, and really are that stupid, then I can't really say much to you at all then.

Whitebread ? - Clearly a racist term, on your part.

Fundies ? - As an atheist, I laugh at your empty , shallow assertion.

Where is your proof that I'd side w/ anyone, Christian or otherwise, who'd not only shoot a 14 year old girl ( after first posting her story, before anyone else on this board ) and then claim they'd finish the job, should she survive.

You have a very serious mental problem, Frem. And I'm not kidding, even slightly. So desperate are you to vilify those who YOU have painted as " the enemy " in your mind, that you'll ascribe all manner of false, evil and absurd motives and beliefs to their views.

"Two-for-one " ? Really? You're digging that complete distortion up? You and Kwickie must share reading comprehension problems.

Wasn't mine to begin with, I only made mention of it. In context, it becomes a completely different discussion, but of course, that's one YOU are too much a coward to even bring up.

JONGSSTRAW

You want to know why we're still fighting the Taliban after 11 years? Want to know why 2,000 American soldiers are dead and 10,000 have been horribly wounded? Want to know why Mullah Omar and Ayman al-Zawahiri are still alive and free and continue to kill Americans?

It's all entirely due to George Bush waiting 30 days to do anything after September 11th except issuing warnings to Kabul to turn over Bin Laden. I can just imagine him and Rumsfeld running things during WWII....hey Hitler, were going to land a really big invasion force in Normandy in 30 days, get ready!

By the time our pathetically pawltry forces arrived there, all the major Taliban and Al Qaeda leaders were gone. We captured 400 of the most ragged, ignorant, and low-level Taliban you could get. We shipped them off to Guantanamo and declared some sort of pyrrhic victory. I guess it was a practice run for Baghdad; a test to see just how badly strategic decisions and military planning can be fucked-up.

That's how it all began. What's happened for the last 10 years is a mystery to me and everyone I know.

Of what group are my views tied to, iyo, that would equate to me being a " fundie " ??

Middle of the road, average , freedom loving American. The 'lunatics' are the extreme, ultra far Left, which YOU seem to be a member of.

*edit -

Do I espouse banning ALL abortions, across the board, no matter what ? Nope

Do I espouse only Christians be allowed to hold public office ? Nope.

Do I espouse only separate drinking fountains for coloreds and whites ? Nope

Seriously, what IS it that you think makes me so 'extreme' that I'm suppose to be some sort of a fundie ?

The US Constitution lists the proper functions of the Federal and State govts. I do feel that both have far and away exceeded their designated duties, and have been wrongly taking from the public in order to line their own coffers. But that's hardly an 'extreme' position, merely one this country was FOUNDED on, from the start.

Obama IS a socialist. There's nothing remotely extreme about that at all. Look at who raised him, where he went to school, who he associated with... it's really not even an issue to debate.

It's not flaming, in the least. YOU just don't like it when others make a valid and sobering point, which takes away from the idiocy that the Left has put SO much damn stock in, and sheds the light on more serious, real world matters.

Thing is many of these issues have been rules on and the government is not exceeding its power according to the constitution. Going back to the original constitution, in the most strict interpretation would also mean we get rid of out standing army.

As was pointed out to you REPEATEDLY in that thread, raising concerns with domestic issues does not mean that you cannot be concerned with international issues.

The truth is left leaning organisations exist which concern themselves with both international and national issues concerning women's wellbeing.

eg http://www.equalitynow.org/

To extrapolate from your sensless argument, you would not be able to raise issues regarding the US economy, because to do so would detract from places in severe economic crisis like...well take your pick, most of the rest of the world.

As far as I can see, you don't give a damn about his girl or her circumstances. She is afterall, just a lousy Muslim destined to breed another gaggle of backwards fundamentalist terrorists to threaten your lifestyle. You were just making a political point, and a bad one at that.

Hmmm, did you ask a question or make a statement?

I thought you were expressing your outrage that something like this happens.

In answer to your question in the post above, then I would ask these questions -

has fighting the Taliban made any difference to the lives of people in Afghanistan?
Are the injustices experienced in other parts of the world enough to go to war over? How do you pick which places to fight, given the injustices that exist in the world?

In the end, I don't know. And I don't believe the US goes to war for justice, but for self interest.

Of course you're going to say that, even though I'M the one who posted the thread about her in the first place.

No one else did, but me.

Why would YOU think she'd raise more terrorists , when she's the victim of terrorism herself ? Terrorism by militant jihadists, and NOT some imperialistic Western power.
