Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Yeah, I ran through them one day at Politifact. Pretty amazing. Haven't kept it up, so I missed the Iranian thing. That's a wowser.

In my own opinion, while unquestionably BOTH sides do it, what the Repubs having been doing this year is far more blatant. I'm used to politicans messing around with the truth, but this year has shocked me that they've come to understand they can say ANYTHING and get away with it. Like Romney blatantly tacking to the center and saying the exact opposite of what he's spent a year spouting. That one blew my mind.

By now we've all accepted it, so I'm less shocked than I was a while ago, but the precedent it sets for future elections really saddens me.

Tit for tat got us where we are today. If we want to be grownups, we need to resist the ugliness. If we each did, this would be a better reflection on Firefly and a more welcome place. I will try.

Out of curiosity, I went to Politifact.

Obama's Score:

True: 99 (22%)
Mostly True: 105 (23%)
Half True: 119 (27%)
Mostly False: 56 (12%)
False: 63 (14%)
Pants on Fire: 7 (2%)

Romney's Score:

True: 30 (15%)
Mostly True: 32 (16%)
Half True: 54 (27%)
Mostly False: 33 (17%)
False: 32 (16%)
Pants on Fire: 18 (9%)

Pretty much what my impression was, tho' I actually thought it was worse. That is, of course, no complete tally, and counts 449 statements by Obama as opposed to only 199 by Romney--which is more than two to one (I wonder why that is? I'm sure Rap will tell us...no doubt has something to do with a librul conspiracy), but the percentages are interesting. I, too, however, would like to know why the discrepancy in the totals.

So, in the interest of fairness, here's what they found as "Pants on Fire" for Obama:

Says Mitt Romney plans to "fire" Big Bird.

Says Mitt Romney "backed a bill that outlaws all abortions, even in cases of rape and incest."

"Mitt Romney, Rick Perry, and Newt Gingrich all say they would cut foreign aid to Israel — and every other country — to zero."

"What I have done -- and this is unprecedented ... is I've said to each agency ... 'look at regulations that are already on the books and if they don't make sense, let's get rid of them.'" (Not unprecedented)

"If you actually took the number of Muslim Americans, we'd be one of the largest Muslim countries in the world." (Now THAT one's a REAL "pants on fire"!)

"And 100 percent, John, of your ads . . . 100 percent of them have been negative."

Obama ad contends that John McCain endorses Rush Limbaugh's comments about immigration.

Just a matter of curiosity for me, nothing more.

Tit for tat got us where we are today. If we want to be grownups, we need to resist the ugliness. If we each did, this would be a better reflection on Firefly and a more welcome place. I will try.
