Even though I haven't smoked for a few years, I've been a advocate of the legalization of weed for reasons ranging from personal to political for a very long time, many of which are covered in this article in one fashion or another.

After reading it though, this article actually scares me, especially since I pretty much agree with all of the talking points from our "Weed Czar" on his particular arguments quoted in this article.

The author seems to think that our "hopeful entrepreneur" is a wacked out moron who is writing a ton of checks his ass can't cash. I couldn't disagree more. I do agree that while the time-line predicted here is laughably incorrect, I don't actually see one single thing claimed as being false predictions of the future otherwise.

A US Government/International Business joint merger and unveiling of a supremely high priced, legalized pot would be just about the worst thing that could happen to this country, and likely Mankind in general. I'm not Drama Queening it up here... This is serious. Phrases like "Opiate of the Masses", and entire books like Brave New World come to mind.

Think about it, in a world sometime in the likely near future that operates based off of his stated model....

A millionaire ex-employee of one of the largest Monopolies in the world spends a few years buying up local pot farms, distributors and storefronts (NATION-WIDE) using legal loopholes he all but brags about having, while biding his time until distribution and ingestion of the currently illegal substance is legalized on a Federal Level. In the mean time, his team of top-tier lawyers are working out the details behind closed doors and silencing negative media attention, while he is keeping himself acquiring semi-rich investors who want to take a risk and get into what "might" be the next "WalMart" size business from the bottom before the stock prices shoot through the sky. He'll likely also be using another team of lawyers to consort with government officials in our debt-ridden country to come up with a HUGE brand new solution to all of our money woes on every governmental level.

$50 a gram?????!!!!!! I can get cocaine cheaper than that, even with gas prices hovering around $4.50/gal!!!!

That's easily 60% of the price point here. Our "hero" is able to cash in on 10% of the national profits and become the single richest man in the world in two decades tops. 30% is shared between any personal taxes he incurs on acquiring that money, his growers and wages for everyone else involved in his self-created pipeline of delivery to the people, and for every $10 people spend the government gets to take $6 dollars from DAY ONE. (I'm sure he thanks the anti-cigarette people for making that talking point moot in 2019).

Contrary to what the author states, I believe this is the PERFECT business model. I don't believe a 2 year timeline for federal acceptance of marijuana use among adults on par with the laws surrounding alcohol consumption, but I also believe that this ludicrous prediction is simply a "red herring" thrown out there to bring doubt to anything else he claims (particularly for the benefit of anti-pot minded government officials as well as mostly the "aging" population of America who is more likely than the youth to be against legalization altogether). At the same time, the mystique and spark of predictions of a seemingly mad man with his eyes on being the next Bill Gates is being built from the ground up, whisper by whisper, will be too much for those who CAN to do without when the day comes....

There are FAR TOO MANY people who aren't hurting like most of us are, and the second that $50/gram weed is legalized in the States, there will be HUGE shortages after the first hour in the most densely populated areas because the yuppies will have bought all that "Primo" government-enhanced weed up first. It won't be hard for them, seeing as how they were camped out around the block since Wednesday night, just waiting to get their grubby little paws on it as they were the nerds camping out in tents Best Buy stores releasing the PS4 this Christmas season.

It would be featured in TV shows before too long. Actually, it would probably be promoted IMMEDIATELY on any D List celebrity-based reality show. Hell... I'm sure one of the lesser known Kardashians with nothing to lose would be happy to be "caught" on video smoking a pre-release of the drug before it was legal even if they went to jail for it... just to go down as the first person to do so.

Rap songs will be made about it. "Blunt"esque loss-of-love ballads will be written about that girl he used to smoke it with. Not to miss a golden oppurtunity, I know it wouldn't be long before Bono dragged U2 along with him to make the next U2 music video about it, which would really just be another of a string of enjoyable Target Store advertisements he's so gifted at writing.

After that, a huge percentage of the 12-35 year demographic will want to try it themselves, many of which, as the mogul-to-be in the article states, "will be people who have never tried it before and possibly never would have". I'll admit, I would be tempted to try it myself even at that price, just to see if it lived up to the hype. I'd just be afraid to do so because it might actually be worth $50 a gram.

Let me explain...

For those who read books, the short explanation..... SOMA.

For everyone else...

Right now, regarding weed, any product in my price range is pretty mediocre. You get a decent high, conversations with otherwise boring people can be stimulating, you can watch movies like Donnie Darko or Pulp Fiction if you're really lit and experience it totally different than you ever would sober... but at the end of the day a lot of weed most people can get their hands on and/or afford today makes many people paranoid and/or withdrawn and/or eat a lot. Even without a high-priced tag like the article suggests, most people who don't know somebody personally who grows some "primo shit" in their mom's basement with a grow light will never experience the sublime pleasure of a 4 hour semi-religious experience... a four hours where all aches and pains of a 30+year old's are completely forgotten about.... a four hours where (unlike alcohol) you're still completely cognizant of any problems you have but you're willing to push them aside for a little while to have a good time.... a four hours where, ahem... sex or any sexual stimulation is about 10 times as amazing as it normally is....

Let's be real folks. Even if you've never had sex on weed, you've probably satisfied your "munchie" urges while on it. Even on shitty weed, just the act of eating feels really good. If it's ALL that's available, even if it's something you're usually not thrilled about or even inclined to eat, you're going to either go out and buy some good food or stay where you are and get more stoned and eat that refrigerated week-old pizza out of your buddies fridge.

If you react like most people to the innate persuasions of sub-"rich" weed, you're just going to stay in and eat. The most energy you might consume on your "hunt" for food that night would be doing the "3oz Curl" and bringing that iPhone to your ear and ordering shitty "Big Box" pizza to satisfy the hunger cravings....

NOT GOVERNMENT WEED THOUGH......

I'm sure most of you have seen American Beauty.

Kevin Spacy might have been a schmuck in that movie, but even so he was a relatively well connected schmuck. He had, with his money, what was a regular connect of the type of weed my friends and I have only been able to acquire on rare occasion back in our day. I'm sure he paid today's equivalent of $50/gram for weed in late 90's standards for what he was smoking in that movie. It helped him confident enough to say "to hell" with his old life of being abused and taken advantage of by his family. It helped him work out in his garage and stop pleasuring himself in the shower in the morning even though that was the highlight of his day.

Sure, it got him (CENSORED FOR NOT SPOILING A TRULY GREAT MOVIE FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T SEEN IT YET). But those video-taped moments over a short-period of real-time were far more enjoyable than the culmination of every single "good" experience he had ever had in the last 15-20 years.

You hook somebody on something like that and they'll never just "settle down" and try to save money by smoking the "regular" alternative. ESPECIALLY when risking getting involved in a STILL illegal pot trade featuring a totally inferior experience simply means that you could still get your car impounded, lose your driver's license, or worse if you cut corners and buy "underground".

Honstely. If one desired, there's not a person here who couldn't grow it on their own in their own house with minimum start-up costs and a little research on Google and a little trial and error. After 3 years and a few hundred dollars investment, you too could be growing what is currently THOUSANDS of dollars of mid-grade weed in your own basement every harvest. The ONLY deterrent for MILLIONS of pot smokers in the U.S. to growing marijuana in their garden next to the tomatoes is that they could face 5-10 years and/or $250,000 fine and/or lose their house and everything they've ever saved for themselves and their family.

For YEARS I've feared that ONLY government fear of debt would be the only reason why pot was legalized. For YEARS I feared that they'd legalize it and charge up the ass for taxes and still make it illegal to grow your own.

This is the possibility that my fears about this were only child's play. A GOVERNMENT sanctioned "Primo" weed multi-national corporation who controls America's vices not at all dissimilar to how the "Federal Reserve" controls our money.

Say goodby to "Old America" for good if this ever comes to fruition. Republican, Democrat and any Third Party here alike.

A company that makes a Government-Enhanced feel-good product with absolutely no legal consequences to consume at any time, as well as no hangover or no negative thoughts while you're indulging.......

This isn't a proposition of the next best thing since sliced bread or the wheel or fire. This is a re-invention of a "weed" that grew well before "man's oldest profession" was born, based ENTIRELY on financial pillars that the most Left-Winged of us abhor.

Say "HIGH" to your first born son when he's 15 and gets hooked and only has to wait 3 years before he's old enough to be legal to buy it on his own.... from WalMart.

I 100% DO agree with the legalization of POT. I believe we should be able to grow it in our vegetable garden if we were so inclined. Even grow it with "grow lamps" in dark closets in our house if "the kids" were to be considered.

This EVIL plot, however, is NOT THE SOLUTION we are looking for.

Do not be suckered into thinking any of this is bullshit simply because he stated weed will be legalized on a federal level in a laughable 2 years........

EDITED TO ADD: Oh....! I almost forgot about Starbucks in the title, although it has relatively nothing to do with them even though they WERE brought up in the article.

Of course, most of us, especially our children, would never be able to afford $50/gram, even if we wanted it. Those on this financial plane who previously couldn't or wouldn't, still wouldn't.

$50/gram would certainly drive up the prices of "underground" weed to just under the breaking point of the majority of "paying clientele" though (just like paying 13 bucks for a bucket of Folders grounds today seems cheap compared to $2.49 for a "large" cup of hot Dunkin' Donuts Coffee deliciousness) .

With a 60% tax on it at least, that leaves a WHOLE lot of wiggle room for the fine men and women who skirt the law today to bring us what we can't buy at the gas station.

In the end, who says that our "fine young gentleman" who made the OFFICIAL/LEGAL pipeline with his team of lawyers hasn't already also cornered the market on the illegal (and much less potent/cost prohibitive) trade pipeline already in existance?

What a great idea! Manipulate laws and public opinion over decades as such to make it a vast majority of the people by 20% that agree with legalization of weed, but sell weed that's so expensive only the top 10% of people can buy it and smoke it and never risk being fined if it's in their system.

For the rest of us though.... continue smoking that shitty weed and going to court or not being able to get a REAL job when it comes along because you fail the test for sub/government weed.

If he's smart, and I know he is, he's already making deals with the cartels outside of the states. He doesn't have to speak to any of their "pipe-line", especially "officials" who are paid via taxpayer dollars who are already "on the dole". He wouldn't even be talking with them if they didn't already have all of those mechanics worked out.....

It's the "Double Dip"....

He'll likely make about 5-10% on every single legal weed purchase after distribution, taxes and legal fees, all of which he had to aggregate and approve himself.

On the low, why not get a 20% share off of existing illegal pot networks if the owners of such enterprises were as good as keeping secrets?

If I don't post in the next week or two, you know I'm dead in a ditch somewhere. Some of you might know my brother. Have him come collect me. :)
