"The former president says the current president may regret staying on the sidelines if Syria's war worsens. In a rare split over foreign policy, former President Bill Clinton said President Obama risks looking like a "total wuss" if he lets public and political opposition to intervening in Syria dissuade him from taking decisive action to help rebels topple the Assad regime.

"If you refuse to act and you cause a calamity, the one thing you cannot say when all the eggs have been broken is, 'Oh my god, two years ago there was a poll that said 80 percent of you were against it,'" Clinton said in a question-and-answer period first reported by Politico. "You look like a total fool."

I find Clinton's remarks against Obama highly amusing considering Clinton's own record of cautious poll watching during his tenure in the job. Giving weapons and support to the 'rebels' at this point means giving them to Al Qaeda, which has flooded into Syria and now dominates the Assad opposition. But that would be in line with another of this Admin.'s Mideast policies, which include giving $2 billion dollars and dozens of F-16 jets to the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.

Obama makes threat, ala Dirty Harry. " Go ahead. Make my day "

Chem weapons are used anyway.

Obama " Hold on there partner, we don't know WHO used them chem weapons. Could have been anyone "

2 months later ... It's confirmed that it was the Syrian govt which indeed did use chem weapons, against the rebels.

Obama : " Well now, we've got to consider our options. "

" We are the ones we've been waiting for ! " - Obama.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

The problem is that the Syrian rebels are very much like the Libyan rebels are very much like the Egyptian rebels are very much like the Tunisian rebels: they're a mixed bag of Islamist fundamentalists, terrorist groups, and a few secular, pro-democracy reformers. Every time we've helped one of the "Arab Spring" causes, a Sharia-loving fundamentalist has risen to the top.

Is that what you want to do??

Yanno, sometimes it's best to do nothing at all, and many times it's best to do nothing military. The answer might be steady economic pressure in favor of democratic secularists, because once you start flooding an area with guns (for example) the most militant will be able to take the most advantage, and you will probably wind up with exactly who you don't want.

And while Barry didn't announce from the Rose Garden his decision to supply the rebels w/ arms and aid, he DID have more than enough time to use 3rd graders as political pawns.

Obama uses 3rd graders to introduce him at gay pride event

Strange days. I agree with Signy on all of that.
