The Texas abortion bill passed both houses of the state legislature by whopping majorities despite efforts by late-term abortion zealots to stop it. It passed the House 98-49 and it passed the Senate 19-11. Those are large majorities by any definition.

The modest bill bans abortions after 20 weeks and elevates standards at abortion clinics to be on par with standards at ambulatory surgical centers.

Shortly after the law passed, the idiot-in-charge Obama sent out the following tweet:

Barack Obama @BarackObama : When politicians try to get in the way of a woman and her doctor, it's time to #StandWithWomen

Obama was unaware or simply didn't care that pro-abortion protesters attempted to sneak 18 jars of urine and feces into the capitol in Austin to assault pro-life activists and duly elected Republican representatives. Neither Obama nor the Texas Democratic Party, or Wendy Davis or Planned Parenthood has condemned those actions or the threats of violence that rippled through the capitol building Friday evening..

In 2011 there were 72,000 abortions performed in Texas. Only 400 were done after the 20th week of pregnancy. The best part of this entire circus has been letting the whole world see the late-term abortion fanatics behave like the crazed and depraved savages they truly are.

Now see, this is the exact kind of useless post people are just blowing past. To instruct you on WHY people are finding your posts so pointless, I've taken the time to point out the problem with what passes for your 'thinking':

"Neither Obama nor the Texas Democratic Party, or Wendy Davis or Planned Parenthood has condemned those actions or the threats of violence ..."

And why should they? They're not responsible for those actions. Other people do what they do. Why are you attaching the actions of others to Obama et al?

Late-term abortion fanatics - like Planned Parenthood? Wendy Davis? The Texas Democratic Party? Obama? Are they acting like savages?

Very, very sloppy argument you've got. You don't know who you're railing against, who you're including or excluding. With you it's just all one spittle-flying incoherent rant against "THEM".

And just to reply to the supposed 'barbarity' of late-term abortions:

sometimes they're a medical necessity

http://www.webmd.com/baby/guide/amniocentesis

Pregnancy and Amniocentesis

During pregnancy, the fetus is surrounded by amniotic fluid, a substance much like water. Amniotic fluid contains live fetal skin cells and other substances, such as alpha-fetoprotein (AFP). These substances provide important information about your baby's health before birth.

What Is Amniocentesis?

Amniocentesis is a prenatal test in which a small amount of amniotic fluid is removed from the sac surrounding the fetus for testing. The sample of amniotic fluid (less than one ounce) is removed through a fine needle inserted into the uterus through the abdomen, under ultrasound guidance. The fluid is then sent to a laboratory for analysis. Different tests can be performed on a sample of amniotic fluid, depending on the genetic risk and indication for the test.

Why Is an Amniocentesis Performed?

Amniocentesis is performed to look for certain types of birth defects, such as Down syndrome, a chromosomal abnormality.

Because amniocentesis presents a small risk for both the mother and her baby, the prenatal test is generally offered to women who have a significant risk for genetic diseases, including those who:

* Have an abnormal ultrasound
* Have a family history of certain birth defects
* Have previously had a child or pregnancy with a birth defect
* Will be 35 or older at the time of delivery

Amniocentesis does not detect all birth defects, but it can be used to detect the following conditions if the parents have a significant genetic risk:

* Down syndrome
* Sickle cell disease
* Cystic fibrosis
* Muscular dystrophy
* Tay-Sachs and similar diseases

Amniocentesis can also detect certain neural tube defects (diseases where the brain and spinal column don't develop properly), such as spina bifida and anencephaly.

Because ultrasound is performed at the time of amniocentesis, it may detect birth defects that are not detected by amniocentesis (such as cleft palate, cleft lip, club foot, or heart defects). There are some birth defects, however, that will not be detected by either amniocentesis or ultrasound.

An amniocentesis can also be done during the third trimester of the pregnancy to determine if the baby's lungs are mature enough for delivery, or to evaluate the amniotic fluid for infection.

When Is Amniocentesis Performed?

If your doctor has recommended an amniocentesis, the
procedure is usually scheduled between the 15th and 18th week of pregnancy.

The reason WHY they wait till AT LEAST the 15th week of pregnancy is because before that, there's simply not enough amniotic fluid, and the space around the fetus is simply too small to safely place the needle and withdraw an ounce of fluid.

There's a VERY NARROW window of time between the time when an amniocentesis can be safe and adequate, and 20 weeks. And sometimes things don't go as planned.

When it comes to the bill specifically, are these requirements on clinics ONLY for those performing late-term abortions, or for ALL abortions, including non-surgical ones?

Yes, because an individual performing illegal procedures under the radar using sub-standard equipment and an unethical standard of care is JUST LIKE a clinic performing medically necessary procedures following the current standard of care.

What it will do is take previously legal activities and make them illegal, keeping those without the means from seeking alternatives, and driving the desperate to illegal and unsafe purveyors - which is exactly what it was meant to do.

It's not about saving babies, it's about punishing women.

Yanno, they can determine the father of a fetus. I kinda think that they should do paternity testing and go after the men and cut their balls off - just to be fair about this. After all, those men made that baby too and should have some legal screwing as well.

Texas now has a law that bans late-term abortions (after 20 weeks), and requires abortionists to have hospital admitting privilges. And quality standards for medical facilities providing abortions have been raised. No sane person has problems with those changes. But Kuku, Kwacko, and the rest of the pro late-term abortion psychos are pissed off. Good...choke on it. Texas is only the beginning.

The Texas House today passed the abortion restriction bill that State Senator Wendy Davis derailed last month.

One provision would move the point at which abortions are no longer legal to 20 weeks from 24 weeks. Another would require doctors who perform abortions to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital and allow abortions to take place only in surgical centers.

The Catholic Association’s press release celebrating progress on the bill said it merely “seeks to raise standards for women’s health and limits the inhumane and heart-breaking practice of late-term abortion.”

So what’s the big deal?

Let’s start with the question of timing.

The way the Catholic Association mentions “late-term” abortions, you might think the only women who had them were lazy and callous, just waiting around until the last second for no good reason.

But as Cecile Richards, the head of Planned Parenthood, told me in an email, nearly 99 percent of abortions occur before 21 weeks; abortions later on often involve rare, severe fetal abnormalities and real threats to a woman’s health. In many cases, women are facing the need to terminate a desired pregnancy, not an unwanted one.

Ms. Richards cited the case of a woman in Nebraska, Danielle Deaver, whose water broke at 22 weeks, depriving her baby of most of the amniotic fluid. “Her doctor told her that the fetus could not develop or survive,” Ms. Richards said. “Despite this, she was forced to live through 10 excruciating days waiting to give birth, because her doctors feared prosecution under her state’s 20-week abortion ban.”

Medical associations oppose these laws, because they are dangerous to the health of women.

Politically, such laws are also dangerous because each decrease in the legal period for abortion is followed by another. “And then it’s on to a ban at 12 or 6 weeks — before a woman even knows she’s pregnant,” Ms. Richards said.

Let’s move on to the idea that rules governing hospital admission privileges and surgical centers are just common sense.

Abortions are safe and rare complications usually can be handled in the clinic where the abortion took place. If a woman becomes seriously ill and requires care in a hospital, she will get it. It makes no difference whether the doctor who performed the abortion has admission privileges.

Every hospital, moreover, has its own procedures for granting admitting privileges, which may have nothing to do with credentials and everything to do with politics or the religious affiliation of a hospital. State and national medical associations oppose these requirements.

In granting a temporary restraining order on Monday against a Wisconsin requirement of this type, federal district court Judge William Conley said his review of the law “does not reveal any medical expert speaking in favor of the act or otherwise articulating a legitimate medical reason for the admitting privileges requirement.”

In Alabama, district Judge Myron Thompson ruled last month that a similar law would mean “the majority of Alabama’s abortion providers would stop providing abortions” and that “would impose a substantial obstacle to a woman’s right to choose abortion.”

Both judges said the lawsuits against the states’ abortions restrictions are likely to succeed, as will the lawsuits that will inevitably be filed once the Texas legislators pass their outrageous bill.

But the legal battles are expensive and contribute to growing political pressure on doctors. They discourage women from exercising their rights, or push them to seek treatment from butchers like Kermit Gosnell.

let's be clear that these laws in no way assist women's health and wellbeing, but provide a direct threat to them.

"I knew you were a crazy bitch..."

What's your excuse? You're extremely comfortable writing off the health and even the lives of thousands of women, just b/c they're pregnant - a condition they are only partly responsible for. Do you consider that moral? Do the men get a completely free pass because they're equally responsible - but they, they're not pregnant and they're men?

For a self-righteous, and may I say totally insane little yapper, you sure seem to have a significant deficiency in any sense of fairness, as well as simple logic.

More like profoundly disappointed - seriously, who is anyone to tell someone else what the hell they can and can't do with their own damn bodies...
And for all their talk of self-ownership, the true hypocrisy of the rightwing lies right there, one of the reasons I believe their primary problem with the Taliban is jealousy that THEY can get away with it, above any other reason.

Every day goes by heightens my revulsion of them and the american "south" to the point where I'd welcome their secession, cause without their hate, ignorance and hypocrisy (not to mention economic parasitism) hanging off our ass like an anchor the rest of us sane people could go on and prosper... and of course I have less kind motives.

See, they'd go chasing their stupid double fantasy of the eleventh marble and randism and their victims being infinately exploitable, to their ruin...
http://chasvoice.blogspot.com/2012/09/the-eleventh-marble.html

And when the inevitable ruin comes upon them, their lands poisoned, resources wasted, population decimated by abuse, riots and sickness, instead of facing the reality of their failure they will contrive excuses to pretend victimhood and then like the parasitic locusts they are, will come for the rest of us.

Whereupon me and people like me will joyfully, gleefully, and with great satisfaction, mow down their sickly, starving hordes and smash their so-called leadership to dust even as we pity their ignorant stupidity.

That this is a happy and pleasant thought for me gives you all you need to know in regards to how I really feel about those rapacious inhumane motherfuckers, pretenses of civility or no.

I've already mentioned how this all isn't even about the matter at hand, but part and parcel of a larger strategy against the rights in general of women and minorities, particularly and eventually the right to vote, then human and civil rights entire, so no need to re-iterate all that mess.
