Global mean sea level has been steadily rising over the last century, is projected to increase by the end of this century, and will continue to rise beyond the year 2100 unless the current global mean temperature trend is reversed. Inertia in the climate and global carbon system, however, causes the global mean temperature to decline slowly even after greenhouse gas emissions have ceased… http://www.pnas.org/content/early/2013/07/10/1219414110]

Sea Level Rise ‘Locking In’ Quickly, Cities Threatened

...our long-term sea level rise commitment or "lock-in" — the sea level rise we don’t see now, but which carbon emissions and warming have locked in for later years — is growing 10 times faster, and this growth rate is accelerating. Just the planet being the planet. Not a gorram thing we can do to change anything, even if we wanted to.

Insanity. According to Rap, the Inuits on the island I posted about CHOSE to live "in harm's way", so they should just move.

Well, here is a list of California cities which will be at least 25% under water by 2100 because of global warming:

Alameda
Alto
American Canyon
Arcata
August
Belvedere
Bethel Island
Burlingame
Byron
Carson
Castroville
Channel Islands Beach
Clarksburg
Coronado
Corte Madera
Country Club
Courtland
Discovery Bay
East Palo Alto
Elk Grove
Emeryville
Fields Landing
Foster City
Fountain Valley
Franklin
Freeport
French Camp
Hayward
Hood
Huntington Beach
Imperial Beach
Isleton
Kennedy
Knightsen
Lathrop
Lemon Hill
Lincoln Village
Long Beach
Los Alamitos
Manila
Marin City
Marina del Rey
Menlo Park
Milpitas
Moss Landing
Newark
North Fair Oaks
North Richmond
Oakley
Orick
Pacheco
Pajaro
Pajaro Dunes
Palo Alto
Parkway
Port Costa
Port Hueneme
Redwood City
Rio Vista
Robbins
Rodeo
Rossmoor
Sacramento
Samoa
San Leandro
San Lorenzo
San Mateo
San Rafael
Sand City
Santa Venetia
Seal Beach
Stinson Beach
Stockton
Suisun City
Sunset Beach
Taft Mosswood
Terminous
Thornton
Union City
Valley Ford
Walnut Grove
West Sacramento

That list represents 3,128,332 people. I live in San Rafael, we bought our home here in 1975. It's my fault, by his reasoning, for choosing to live "in harm's way", so I should just move. Ya gotta love the "logic".

Can't help wondering how much it will cost American taxpayers (including Rap) to relocate all of us? I'm sure he believes we should all just drown, given it's our own fault for choosing in 1975 to live in some place that will be under water by 2100.

GEEZER

Keep the Shiny side up

Sort'a confusing figures here.

The PNAS.Org cite states that sea levels will rise 2.3 meters(7.5 feet) in 2000 years. That's about .045" a year. So per their figures, sea level will rise about 4" by 2100.

The Climatecentral.org cite states up to 23 FEET by 2100.

Quite a discrepancy.

Looks almost like someone missed a decimal point and posted the wrong units. Not really sure though. Depends on the sites in question and the scientists who worked with the data and made the figures.

Although 23 feet is still lower than the maximum projected sea level rise if the ice caps melt, which is 20 meters.

(and that's not because of the amount of water in the ice caps, it's because of thermal expansion of water estimated at the temperature in which the ice caps would be completely melted)

Niki - the planet cares not where man decides to build and live. It really doesn't. Post every single gorram city, town, village, etc with in 10 miles of every beach / coastline on the globe.

Mother Earth does not care.
