George Zimmerman -- who was acquitted earlier this month on murder charges tied to Trayvon Martin's death -- was stopped this weekend for speeding in northern Texas, according to police.

Zimmerman was apparently traveling with a gun when he was pulled over. Dashcam video released by Forney, Texas, police shows him and a police officer talking briefly before the officer tells him to shut his glove compartment

"Don't play with your firearm, OK?" the officer says.

The Forney police officer ultimately sends Zimmerman off with a verbal warning to "slow down."

The traffic stop occurred shortly after noon on Sunday. The dashcam video shows the officer turning on his sirens and saying, "Get 'em," as Zimmerman's 2008 gray Honda pulls away.

Moments later, the officer pulls up behind Zimmerman's car, which is by then parked in the breakdown lane with its hazard lights on.

The officer asks for a driver's license, and after a short exchange with Zimmerman and recognizing the name, he says, "What a coincidence."

"The reason you were stopped is for your speed," the officer adds later. "And as long as you don't have any warrants, you'll be served a warning." http://www.cnn.com/2013/07/31/us/texas-zimmerman-traffic-violation/ind

You know, I've been stopped a couple of times in my life for speeding, and I never got off with a warning. I even got a ticket for a very careful, slow "rolling stop" at a dead-end side street. And of course, if I'd been "playing" with a "firearm"... I guess Texas is different from California. Or something.

I've been pulled over for speeding in Texas and got a warning.

I've been pulled over for rolling a stop sign in Georgia and got a warning.

Could it be your attitude?

Heck, I got a warning in Utah for 98mph - and I had guns and knives in the car!

I haven't watched the video of the stop, but I'm guessing the cop wasn't black.

Just had to stick that in, didn't you Geezer? Incapable of civility, as usual. No, I'm always polite to police, and they've always been polite to me.

We even got a fix-it ticket, not a warning, for our bike rack "obscuring" the license plate. Had to buy a new bike rack; Jim and I always remark when we see bike racks which REALLY obscure the license plate out there, and we see many.

I guess California is just more stringent with its traffic laws, tho' I think I'd be a bit paranoid if I were a cop and stopped someone "playing" with this firearm...

When you stop, for example, calling Auraptor 'little rappy', then you can expect civility.

Yeah, Utah is like that. I know someone who was pulled over with one of those big double bladed battle-axes in the backseat... Long story (summed up accurately again by "it's Utah"), but they also got off with just a warning.

Now if you'd had alcohol or fireworks in your car... thousand dollar fine.

This was what I was getting at with the "this for that" thing in the other thread... No one has even attacked Auraptor in this thread. Just like Auraptor hadn't insulted anyone in the other thread but he got mocked and insulted. And you Geezer weren't insulted at all before you posted.

Even if you really were all giving back only what you get back, which is counterproductive as hell, it's like you all think you have to do it PRE-EMPTIVELY or something.

Heck hitting back only when you yourself gets hit would actually be an IMPROVEMENT to what goes on here because then you'd all be responding to what is actually happening NOW instead of all these ghosts of past insults and fights. Not only would there be fewer insults and and less of the harrassment that gets directed at particular board members, but whenever someone DID get insulting, hitting back with a defense would be then at least be justified.

Oh, that's TRULY rich! I have NEVER called him "little rappy". Your hate circle obviously doesn't bother to discriminate, which isn't surprising. I call him Rap, period. At one time I referred to him as Raptor, but I admire raptors (birds), so I shortened it. That and never, ever "little rappy" that I can recall.

I could go on to say something like "so I guess I can expect civility", but we all know better. I don't call people filthy names, but that's never stopped many from hurling them at me. It has nothing to do with "respect" with you and your buddies, and you know it.

...I like rap. Some of the music has a good beat.

Plus I mean Empire State of New York. Dat chorus.

Niki, you sometimes post animated gifs of questionable piles of material in response to people. And you mock people when they haven't yet provoked such a response. You do in fact contribute to the situation.

It has everything to do with respect. It is a lack of mutual respect, even the bare minimum respect that talking to a fellow mortal human being would normally inspire. That's the problem. Everyone treats each other like they're inhuman. Everyone has been demonized due to political differences and sociological beliefs.

I don't really understand why.

You know, you're right.

Okay, I'll be civil to you until provoked.

Civil doesn't mean I won't disagree with you, or call you on stuff I think is bogus, but I won't insult.

That's positive. I like this.

I think though, maybe we should try to avoid putting caveats on civility. Because in heated discussions and disagreements, it's really hard not to take on certain tones or say certain things that don't come across as insulting. Or even people just become frustrated when they don't see eye to eye and the argument keeps going until no one wants to talk about it anymore.

No one's going to be civil all the time. I'm definitely not. So some allowances should be made for that, and people should try to avoid letting previous instances of incivility, to themselves or their friends, carry over. Like in retaliations or pre-emptive strikes. Or "drive-by" posts or "sniping."

When I find myself getting frustrated and feeling provoked and/or becoming uncivil, I try to take breaks. If worst comes to worst, I try to avoid talking to a person I have trouble with, and avoid their threads.
