Well, at least he admits it's his opinion.

One could ask where he learned the material well enough to argue with the many PhD's who have an opinion on global warming, let alone suddenly be an expert on religion.

I actually heard him say this, and to be honest, I thought it a stretch at the time.

I'd like to say Niki is, yet once again, taking his words out of context and distorting his meaning.

Only this time, that's not the case.

I got nothin'.

What idiotic logic. Aside from the Invisible Sky Daddy stuff - we control stuff we don't create all the damned time.

Much like how sensationalized politicizing of the pro-global warming side of the argument and anti-human malthusianism actually hurts the science, the skeptics side of the argument is hurt by a widespread belief in a "command from God" to Noah's sons that they should "fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground."

This is often interpreted to mean that humans couldn't wreck our environment no matter how hard we try, because "God's creation" is greater than us, and because "God" won't allow us to endanger ourselves and would intervene.

Unfortunately both extremes detract from the actual effort to figure out if something is going on, what's going on, and how to solve it as painlessly as possible if there is.

The over reaction by the religious zealots likely comes from the Gestapo like attitudes from the AGW side, who not only demand their view be accepted, shut down any and all discussion or debate on the matter, but then go to great lengths a installing costly programs that will do next to nothing at 'fixing' the problem.

It comes off as - " You MUST believe us, there IS no debate, and we're going to screw you in the wallet, even though it's not gonna do 1 damn thing to change the climate !"

Excuse me ? I'm thinking you can go F yourselves.

I've often thought that the best solutions would be the ones people are willing to implement themselves.

Like "don't slash and burn all the trees, we should conserve some forests for future generations" and "don't dump toxic waste in the air and water" and maybe "I should walk/bike more, it's healthier anyway" and "biodegradable means less stuff sent to the landfills and I should support biodegradable packaging."

And also TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCES because technology can solve ANYTHING.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Got specifics?

Barton cited the biblical Great Flood as an example of climate change not caused by man.
"I would point out that if you're a believer in in the Bible, one would have to say the Great Flood is an example of climate change and that certainly wasn't because mankind had overdeveloped hydrocarbon energy."

and Moses built his ship and put 2 parrots, 2 pigs, 2 horses, 2 dogs, 2 sabretooth tigers, 2 triceratops, 2 velociraptor....all side by side into his magic ship and saved the human race and animals of the Earth

After the flood waters dropped Noah's zoo and homeboys and girls left the ark, God made a promise to Noah. He promised Noah that he would never again destroy Noah's boy n girls with rising water
Then he did something to remind Noah of that promise. He placed a rainbow in the sky and he said to Noah, "I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be a sign of the promise between me and all life on the earth." God said that every time he saw the rainbow, he would remember the promise that he made.

Thanx Jaynez, I didn't know that story. Doesn't quite jive with any idea that "God" is responsible for the rising waters again this time, does it? And thanx for the reminder of Barton, I'd completely forgot about the guy.

Darkness induced apathy. Focus too much on getting people worried and alarmed - up to and including that a horrible catastrophe is coming (which it might be) and they can't do anything about it - in an effort to rile them up for some action, and people will have the opposite reaction. Instead of becoming concerned, doing their part, and researching and investigating the science, people become bored and scornful to the point where they will ignore actual warning signs. You don't want to turn people off from helping, it's counterproductive.

Plus, for the science itself, science is a pure thing. Sensationalization and deliberate ignorance are at opposite ends of the "acknowledging the data" spectrum, but both are the enemy of science.

I don't know if you saw, but not too long ago I was having an argument through kpo with someone at another board who thought that the Earth's atmosphere could boil off like Mars did if climate change gets much worse and that the human race is already screwed.

That HURTS science. And it hurts the efforts that people are making to understand and counter this problem.
