Terry Holcomb Sr. is a pastor in San Jacinto County, but he is also a staunch advocate of the 2nd Amendment who is now taking his rifle on walks through Huntsville.

In videos he posted on YouTube, Holcomb is shown walking into Double Dave’s Pizza, Starbucks, Jack in the Box and Walmart in Huntsville. He carries his AR-15 Bushmaster .223 slung over his shoulder, behind his back with the barrel pointed down. He said the magazine was loaded, the chamber was empty and the safety was on.

Holcomb said the reason he took the walk through Huntsville and through several private businesses was to educate people about Texas open carry laws

Texas is not an “open carry” state. You cannot legally in Texas, like you can in the state of Virginia for example, carry a handgun openly on your hip. Texas law states the handgun must be concealed under your clothing.

Texas also requires a concealed handgun license that comes only after several hours of required classroom instruction. However, it is legal to carry a long rifle in the open in Texas, with certain limitations like those legally enforced by private businesses.

Although a previous trip to Starbucks in Huntsville went without incident or the management confronting him about the weapon, a second trip to the same Starbucks Friday brought a visit by Huntsville police. Someone called 911 after seeing him in the parking lot with the AR-15 and became concerned.

“Kind of scary honestly. It’s a massive gun,” one Starbucks customer told KHOU 11 News, who did not want to give her name.

Two Huntsville police officers talked with Holcomb outside the Starbucks, agreed that he was not breaking any laws, but did question why he thought the display was necessary.

“You’ll find no person who’s a bigger fan of all the constitutional amendments than me because I am,” said Gerald Treece, a professor at the South Texas College of Law. “But all constitutional rights are subject to some limitations. The ability to take a firearm any place you want by simply citing the 2nd Amendment simply is illogical because all constitutional rights are subject to limitations.” http://www.khou.com/news/cnn/Pastor-carries-rifle-in-Hunstville-to-rai

In one video, Holcomb wanders about a Walmart for several minutes before he is approached by two store employees and asked to leave. He argues briefly with those two employees until a manager approaches and threatens to call the police if he does not exit the store. Although Holcomb then agrees to leave the store, he refuses a request to stop videoing the engagement — at one point, his camera man claims the recording is for Holcomb’s “safety.” "“Well, the Walmart in Huntsville definitely doesn’t honor 2nd Amendment rights,” he said in the video as he walked into the store parking lot." This is how you? protest? This is some of the most ridiculous nonsense I've seen from a so-called gun activist. You entered a Walmart to intimidate shoppers and employees rather than take your point directly to politicians, police, or other government institutions. To me, this says that you have no interest in political activism. Instead, your interest is in being a bully and just an overall asshole. In the end, I guess I should say thanks for doing your part to get OC laws banned.

What a buffoon. Its private property, they are within *their* rights to not allow weapons.

Its not a protest - its grandstanding.

"Goram it kid, let's frak this thing and go home! Engage!"

I'd really expect nothing less from a Texan Pastor.

"Ouch" on behalf of Texas (or any) pastors. I disagree. Although the mentality being displayed doesn't surprise me from someone in Texas, I think his being a pastor...well, I wouldn't have said or thought that, that's all.

But I agree with Mark--and the two cops: "Its not a protest - its grandstanding."

Ayep.
Guy's lookin to create an "incident", giving him one just plays to his game.
I woulda simply pointed out to him that while he's got every right to lug that monster around in public, a business is private property and if he wants folk to respect his rights, he needs to respect those of others.

Saw a guy passing by last year with a properly slung (muzzle down) rifle last year, which didn't bother me but his appearance gave me a bit of a WTF?! doubletake moment, cause he looked EXACTLY like the "Lone Wanderer" from Fallout 3, right down to the tin cup hanging off his belt.

Always sorta wondered who he was and where he was goin, but it weren't none of MY business.

Another one of those "I wonder"'s I get. I wonder what denomination this guy is. I usedta be a Methodist. This guy wouldn't last 1 week as a Methodist pastor, I don't think. His bishop and District Superintendent would be all over him in one hot minute.

Not at all the "turn the other cheek", "forgive your enemies", "Prince of Peace" Christianity that the modern Methodist church is about.

Mmmm...Frem's impression was the same as mine, which is why that comment caught my eye and I added it.
