A Downing Street spokesman has said Number 10 was "kept abreast" of the decision to detain Mr Miranda, 28, who was held on Sunday on his way from Berlin to Rio de Janeiro, where he lives with Mr Greenwald.

The Guardian said he had been carrying "journalistic materials" but was not an employee of the newspaper.

Mr Greenwald has broken stories about state surveillance with information from fugitive Mr Snowden who used to work as a contractor at the US National Security Agency.

"Mr Miranda was detained under schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act 2000."

So if you know a person who knows a person who thinks, says, or publishes subversive material, you might be a terrorist.

You're welcome everybody. *salute*

FREMDFIRMA

Seems these days the question ain't whether you're paranoid, but whether you're paranoid ENOUGH.

Also, Lavabit, Silent Circle and Groklaw are now kaput thanks to this.
SC decided to pre-empt any attempt to force them to retain information and wiped it all beyond recovery just in case.

Looks like the future might well be forcing the incompetent feds to play whack a mole, or looks like the wind is blowing that way.

Oh, and have they any IDEA just how STUPID sticking pins in folks who happen to HAVE ALL THEIR DIRT, really *is* ?
Greenwald was preparing for this moment way back when in the days when he decided to get the hell out of this country, and has his foundational groundwork in place for a scorched earth battle on political, legal and maybe even physical fronts, and has for some time.

America loves a winner!

Miranda.

How ironic.

But what's so incredible is how American journalists, in their best McCarthy-like tones, actually accused him of aiding and abetting the enemy.

Fathom the hypocrisy of a government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured... but not everyone must prove they are a citizen

I noticed that too. Both the irony and the insane kowtowing to authority.

Wow.

We better see SOMETHING soon, because this stuff is getting out of control. Though I also would accept the "whack-a-mole" solution.
