Her crime ? Drinking out of a cup from a well which was only for MUSLIMS to drink from, and not Christians.

Sentenced to death for a sip of water

To her neighbors, Aasiya Noreen “Asia” Bibi, a poor mother of five in the tiny village of Ittan Wali in central Pakistan, was guilty — guilty of being Christian in a nation that is 97% Muslim. For four years she has languished in a prison cell for this, facing death by hanging. Her new memoir, “Blasphemy,” was dictated to her husband from jail, who relayed it to French journalist Anne-Isabelle Tollet. Fifty percent of the proceeds the book will go to support Bibi and her family. Tollet says the situation is dire. Embarrassed by Bibi’s case but still refusing to release her because of angry protests by extremists, the Pakistan government has transferred her to a more remote prison, hoping the 42-year-old dies quietly behind bars, perhaps poisoned by another inmate. Already two government officials who have spoken out on her behalf have been murdered, including Minister for Minorities Shahbaz Bhatti, who was killed by the Taliban. In this excerpt, Bibi explains the simple “transgression” that led to her plight.

This is as bad as white fountains and black fountains.

Actually maybe worse since it's hotter and drier in many parts of Pakistan than in the South.

Yeah, a lot worse.

At least there WERE water fountains for blacks to use, which wasn't the case here. Apparently, the real issue is that she double dipped the cup. THAT is all it took to " insult the prophet " .

And I doubt any black would have been thrown in jail and sentenced to die for drinking at the 'white' water fountain.

Fathom the hypocrisy of a government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured... but not everyone must prove they are a citizen

The silence from the " tolerance & diversity for me, but not for thee " crowd is deafening .

You'd get thrown in jail for it. The Luncheon Sit-Ins that were organized in response to what happened to Rosa Parks often were arrested without bail.

The 1957 Durham, NC Sit-in

In one of the earliest sit-ins of the American Civil Rights Movement, the "Royal Seven," a group of three women and four men from Durham, NC sat in at the Royal Ice Cream Parlor on June 23, 1957 to protest practices of segregation.[6] The activists were arrested and charged with trespassing. Their efforts are now recognized via historical markers in the town of Durham, North Carolina.

Despite their refusal to retaliate, over 150 students were eventually arrested for refusing to vacate store lunch counters when ordered to do so by police. At trial, the students were represented by a group of 13 lawyers, headed by Z. Alexander Looby. On April 19, Looby's home was bombed, however, neither he nor his wife were injured.

(Note: yes, bombed, like terrorists in the middle east do)

You might (only might) get the shit beaten out of you. It'd be a toss up whether you'd die from the injuries.

Source: Numerous instances of violence in response to said sit ins.

But you wouldn't be SENTENCED to death exactly so that's... slightly better than this. It's more the extreme need for water that I think makes this so serious.

It really is terrible, no argument on that count here. Hopefully another country can negotiate and offer amnesty or something. Or some non-shitheads over there might have an attack of conscience and break her out.
