World's oldest creature is revealed to be 507-year-old shellfish called Ming – until scientists KILLED it by opening it up to check its age

Scientists initially thought the clam, named Ming, was 405 years old

Mistake was made as scientists couldn't clearly see Ming's growth rings

Researchers claim the creature could help unlock the secrets to a long life

It had already been confirmed as the oldest animal that ever lived.

But scientists who accidentally killed Ming the Mollusc, a deep sea clam dredged from the North Atlantic, have now discovered it was 100 years older than previously thought.

Following painstaking analysis, experts from Bangor University reckon the animal was born in 1499, making it 507 when it was found.

First time in my life I ever felt sad for a clam. What a horrific and senseless death, all in the name of "science". Yeah, they said the same thing at Nuremberg.

Ming's two surviving children, Brett age 405 and Sylvia age 399, released a statement today concerning the death of their beloved mother.

"She was a very caring and loving mom with a big aortic valve. We are quite steamed about this incident, and will asking our attorney Shell E. Coli to file papers seeking damages."

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

"Yeah, they said the same thing at Nuremberg."

Clambake, anyone? Oh wait, that's JUST LIKE Nazi Germany - 'cause it's not like people kill and eat clams every day.

The difference between the clam and global warming is the clam was REAL! And it never took billions of taxpayer dollars in grants to do self-serving bogus research.
