I will be posting direct quotes from old treads here. I'm playing with color and format so there will likely be several edits before this post is really legible. I will add tidbits from other threads in later posts.

My goal is to assign certain font colors to certain posters. ie:

Rappy is BCE954, otherwise known as slime green.
signym gets 43C6DB, torquoise.
antimason is 728C00, green snake
jongsie is 728C00, venom green

in the town i live, one of the few talk radio stations we have broadcasts Glen Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity on a daily basis. from my experience this IS what they believe.. the irony being that they seem to hate "liberal" Americans as much as their alleged "liberals" hate America. if Americans need to be murdered to be taught a lesson, then its for the greater good i guess.. thats the penalty for disagreement.

Is the idea to post quotes that have blown our minds? That reveal a person's worldview to be completely insane or illogical? Certain conservatives on here blow my mind quite regularly.

It's not personal. It's just war.

I think the objective is to color code comments from weeks, months, even years ago, and take them completely out of context.

Mission accomplished ?

That sounds like a useful and fulfilling way to spend one's time here on Earth, don't it ?

One issue is price controls.

If everyone is insured then usage of the health care system will skyrocket. If there is no immediate increase in service providers and resources then prices will spike (because one doctor can only see so many people). If prices spike then price controls are the only solution.

According to Dick Morris, when all this was being bounced around in 1994 this was something that was at the center of the Clinton plan. Rationing limited resources, price controls, strict control of wages, specialties, practice areas for new doctors, etc.

What it means is that if you are in this system then "no" may be your answer. If you need heart surgury you'll apply and they'll possibly say "no". Not, second opinion, not go to another hospital... just plain "no". If you get the procedure done (in the US) then you'll have violated the law and so will the doctor who did it. This is Canada's system and why so many folks from countries with socialized medicine make discreet trips to the US for major surguries.

Insurance, as a general rule, is just a successful Ponzi scam anyway, considering they use most of the money they rake in from Govt Mandated "clients" (read: victims) to hire lawyers and buy off courts so they don't actually have to fulfill their end of the deal - not to mention since it's mandatory, THEY get to write the contract any way they like, and change it at a whim, and the only choice YOU get is vaseline or K-Y, cause all them bastards are gonna do ya.

" If you've got nothing to hide, why are you afraid of what they might find. And if you're afraid, then maybe you're hiding something...." Of course, I later grew up and took courses in Constitutional law, and it dawned on me that we, as individuals have rights, and it's the Gov'ts job to PROTECT those rights, not trample on them.

So, to be honest, I'm at a cross roads. On the surface, I see nothing wrong w/ the Patriot Act. All the fears which folks claim 'COULD' happen, aren't. I don't see any rash of people's rights being violated, either by legitimate or false reasons. When the issue of terrorism is brought up, I recall the old line, " If you've got nothing to hide, why worry ? ", which of course brings me to a pause. ISthe 'war on terror' nothing more than a reved up version of the failed and pointless 'war on drugs' ? Then I think of 9/11. I watch a documentary or what ever, and remember what it was like on that day. Sure, there's the possibility that the P.A. could be used and abused.....but as of yet, I'm not convinced it has.

Abuses of this nature are like roaches, for every one you see, there's many more you don't cause they just hide it behind various levels of classification - and we find out 10-29 years later.

EDITED TO ADD: Wow.... that is a really boring video. Read about it 7 years ago and never saw it until now.

EDIT 2: Prolly why I did so well all those years driving me and girls and friends home while having 15 beers in my system. It was all about the CAR. Even if you're riding "4 deep" or more in a car at 3AM, as long as you're driving a low-profile gas-budget car and not blasting music so heads are bopping, you'll get everyone home alright no matter how many cops are running your non-law-breaking-history and driving a straight line.

"Papa J".... I miss those days...

I did my part. I wish I could have kept them out of jail or deadness in the end, but in the end, your sphere of influence is rather limited, even if you're called "papa" anything.....

In a sense, I DO get them, but after video game RPG loves and fond memories of playing "Magic the Gathering" in a friend-of-a-friend's "Ice Dungeon" sophomore year (see: parent's basement), I don't get the whole "group" or MMO mentality.

I mean, I get it, but I'm not ever going to be a part of it....

Life sucks, for sure....

Fantasy is MUCH better than real life, for sure.....

My philosophy is, if you have enough to be "ample" in your day to day things on your own and you want to add a little bit of spice to your life and it costs a few bucks, go for it!

I'll have to remember the next time I have protected sex with a high priced and reputable "Girl" that I will wear protection. Oh, wait.... I always did.

No judgements for anyone who goes on a 3k per person cruise. I get it.....

I made roughly 9.5k after taxes this year. Nearly 2k of that was spent on smokes and booze.

My favorite 1k a year though?.......?

It's so fleeting it may as well be a Zebra painted Pink Polka-dot f-ing leopard unicorn.

LOL! I've been stuck at home sick for days and the current threads are all boring Rappy-baiting. I've binge watched all the TV I can handle, tired of games and nothing's new in the news. So I randomly opened some old threads. Lots of good stuff, but I'm trying to stick with posters who are still active and issues that are still relevant.

And also I'm limiting reposts to things that are surprising. There's lots of Rappy and Hero and Jongs loving on W and defending the war in Iraq and such, but that's all pretty obvious.

Lots of posters who left that I miss. :(

...Actually, kinda yeah. I get that you're terrified about the prospect of alimony and child support, but as you've always said, you have yourself and you don't need any woman.

As such, how exactly are any of them ever going to get those hooks in you you're so worried about?

I mean I'm terrified of intimacy myself, and I don't need anyone but me.

But I don't hate people because I'm scared of intimacy. Intimacy isn't a thing that's going to happen so it's not like it's something someone has ever DONE to me.

And the one time you told us about a relationship you had, it ended badly for the girl, not you.

And then, on the flip side, you resent any woman who would not be dependent upon you, even though you would hate that, because you think that defying the traditional gender roles will destroy society.

It's like a giant psychological catch 22 you've caught yourself in. You've crippled yourself with your fear and mistrust and hate.

Normally I be a little irate at someone disrespecting our commander in chief, but after all that has passed, I do believe the Iraqis have the right - and shoes, pies, rotten fruit, those are not the instruments of an assassin, but a people we've badly mistreated showing thier ire at the guy they think most responsible for the disaster their country has recently become.

He took it well, and in good humor, I give him credit for that.
Quote:

Bush wasn’t hit by the shoes, which both sailed over his head after they were thrown one after the other. The president shrugged and said “I’m OK” after the incident in Baghdad today. “All I can report is it is a size 10,” Bush said afterwards.

And I find this comment on the matter rather satisfying.
Quote:

Bush said today’s incident was an example of free speech in a democracy.

About damn time they learned that, you ask me, now maybe they could get around to applying that concept HERE, for once.

Anyhow, I might not think all that much of the Shrub, but he does have a decent sense of humor and takes the hits quite well, at least publicly.

Interesting thread.

Generally, I too scroll past 6ix's posts, except the very short ones. IMO, when they're long and/ or contain videos with critique/ homage, they're incoherent, drunken rambles. Only his short ones contain anything worth reading, but he hardly posts those. As for his niece, I wonder if he loves her enough to swear off alcohol and drugs. I've seen one person completely turn their life around once a child was born. I've seen way too many other people continue on their self-destructive path, no matter how much love they profess for the new baby. it'll be interesting to see if his ego and addiction are overcome, or not.

More interesting is the old "More Lies and Alibis" thread.
http://www.fireflyfans.net/mthread.aspx?tid=29612

Can't really call it a 'prediction' since having certain foreknowledge of the depth and scale of it as far back as the early 90's wasn't guesswork given a certain level of involvement, however slight.
Interesting that the lid came off the way it did, via Snowden, rather than in a more unpleasant fashion, which is what I expected it to take.

But that they lied, continue to lie, and will then continue to lie some more about spying on, harrassing, even murdering, the very people they're supposed to be protecting is entirely sufficient cause to pink slip or even incarcerate the lot of em, you ask me - billions of dollars wasted on agencies so hell bent on this they can't even DO their proper "job" in even the most miniscule way, and for what ?

Strange days these, when the "paranoid nutjobs" wind up the good guys.
And even somewhat horrifying when folks have to look to folk like Anonymous for social justice - reminds me of that little rant of Lokis from The Avengers about how desperate one must be to call upon such lost creatures to save em.

Mike Huckabee.....no way. I like him, but he carries his Bible too much with him

Mitt Romney...nope, Again, I like him, but he's Mr. Wooden Soldier, and not in touch with the times we live in

Matter of fact, I cannot think of one Republican right now that is even close to being electable. The new leaders of of the Party now are actually on TV (Hannity)and radio (Limbaugh), or appear as guests on those shows like Newt Gingrich, Dick Morris, Karl Rove, Kimberly Guillfoyle, Ann Coulter, Monica Crowley, Bernie Goldberg, etc, and NONE of them could run for dogcatcher in Paducah. So why the ENORMOUS disconnect between Actual Republican politicians, and Conservative Repubicans in the media? Why? I think Republican politicians are generally clueless, generally living in the 1950's, generally AFRAID of public opinion, generally cowards, generally cannot ever effectively argue a position, and are generally self-serving twits like most of their Dem counterparts. Also they cannot unite on anything, especially the opposition to Democrats. I give the Dems credit; even though they too are fractured by diffferent positions, they always band together against Republicans, and that's why they win these days. I heard Morris last night predicting that Republicans will take back Congress in 2010 as a result of the backlash against Obama's failed economics and worsening recession/depression. I think that's delusional thinking, and if THAT's THE PLAN to get back in power, just to watch Obama fail, then God help us all.
