The normally reserved elder statesman of broadcasting, Bob Schieffer, couldn’t contain his laughter Sunday morning on Face the Nation when Ted Cruz gave his preposterous response to a question about the previous government shutdown.

Schieffer tried to get Cruz to answer the question posed. Cruz, in true political double talk, slithered his way into blaming the president and opposing party.

Bob Schieffer – “You became a celebrity when you led the drive to shut down the government over Obamacare… Can you conceive of any situation in which you would do that again? Try to shut down the government in exchange or in demand for some action by the President?”

Ted Cruz - “… I opposed a government shutdown. I said we shouldn’t shut the government down. I think it was a mistake that President Obama and the Democrats shut the government down this fall. The reason they did so, is that President Obama dug in and said he wouldn’t compromise, he wouldn’t negotiate.”

And so, Schieffer tried again,

“Would you ever conceive of shutting down the government again?”

Cruz responded,

“Well, as I said, I didn’t threaten to shutdown the government the last time. I don’t think we should ever shut down the federal government, I repeatedly voted to fund the federal government.”

Schieffer asks while laughing, “Senator, if you didn’t threaten to shut down the federal government, who was it that did?”

Ted Cruz answered with a straight face, “Senator Harry Reid and President Obama.”

Maybe the best part of the entire interview was, as Cruz is still trying to bob and weave politically, Schieffer just cuts him off. He couldn’t stand to listen to the bullshit anymore either. Video:

Soooo amusing... after the quoted parts of the interview Shieffer asks about the next debt ceiling deadline, and if Cruz will just raise it or demand something in return, and the moron goes off on how of course he can't just raise the ceiling etc etc...

So he said that yes, he will hold the economy hostage again. Oh, but when he did it last time it wasn't really him doing it. I doubt this man can even spell stupid.

This is where we need people like Jon Stewart who will be ready to play clips of Cruz before and during the shutdown, when he was crowing about how happy he was to be "making" a stand and shutting things down.

That's not what he said ( had you bothered to even WATCH the video ), and no, he did NOT hold the economy hostage. Not even close. Closing what, * 17 % of the govt, which was Obama's choice, didn't impact the country anywhere near as bad as the doom/gloom sayers predicted.

Just a while ago I looked at threads from five and more years back and found pages and pages of the same exact tit for tat that continues today. Hello Signym! Even though no further proof is needed to show the bias of the MSM, Shieffer and ABC omitted a part of the Cruz interview, where Ted Cruz brought up a very legitimate issue. The incarciration of not 1 but 2 people who have made videos which run counter to the wishes of THIS tyrannical President.

The broadcast omitted the Texas senator’s comments about what he called abuse of power including last week’s federal criminal indictment of conservative author and filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza.

As Newsbusters.com observed, “Apart from being the victim of Schieffer’s accusations that the Tea Party senator was to blame for the shutdown, it also appears that Mr. Cruz was the victim of editing by CBS.”

Viewers did get to see Cruz call on President Obama to apologize during tomorrow night’s State of the Union speech for all the canceled health insurance plans under Obamacare and to do something to fix the problem.

If you watched the interview as aired, however, there was an obvious abrupt jump cut at the end. A video released by Sen. Cruz contains the comments that CBS left on the cutting room floor.

As noted above, a significant part of the program consisted of Cruz and host Bob Schieffer sparring over who was responsible for the government shutdown. When Schieffer asked Cruz for a yes or no about whether he will run for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination (which he didn’t want to answer as no politician does prematurely), there was an interesting omission from the broadcast.
