Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Ah yes, the influence of the Tea Party - the party fighting for the interests of the little guy ...

"Take his own life rather than lift hundreds of thousands out of poverty by requiring businesses to pay a minimum wage that a small family can come somewhere close to living on."

Here's the problem EC....

I currently make ends meet with ZERO debt on minimum wage, part time, without any benefits.

I know you have good intentions, but your desire actually hurts me....

Currently, If I make $100 more a month on average, it will reduce my food stamps.

Every Dollar I make more than $10k a year after a personal exemption and the standard deduction is taxed 10% (on top of the 7.5%-9% for Social Security and Medicaid we all pay for the first $100k or so).

Let's not forget that everything we buy will cost more to pay for the increase in wages.....

Completely candid, I make $8/hr exactly. That includes my overnight shift differential. If I drove 12 miles round trip I would make $8.25 as minimum wage.

When I was making nearly $20/hr and minimum wage was raised, I didn't make a penny more. As somebody who NEVER made more than 60k a year, I can say that the minimum wage hike to me was like a demotion in pay. I still made just as much as I used to on paper, but instead of being able to buy Tombstone pizzas on sale for 5 for 10 bucks I had to start buying Jack's pizza. Today there's rarely a sale on Tombstone pizzas and their asking price is $4.69 not on sale.

SERIOUSLY..... Some people have WAY too much money.......
