"Ode To The Final Charge of the Serenity"
By Patrick M. Shutt (EphPhaThaINC)

I am...

Alliance in front of them,
Reavers right behind them,
Empty blackness all around them,
Chugged and puttered right along.

A Leaf on the Wind...

And as the vollies and the thunders rolled around them,
Still they stormed toothless without shot and shell,
Bold and courageous they flew,
Defiantly into the jaws of Death,
on the very edge of Hell they leapt,
Rode, the mighty seven of the Serenity.

...now watch how I soar.

Inspired and written from a contest on my poetry website (where all of my poems presently reside from) at www.allpoetry.com

"This scenario is the prompt: A leaf lying on a road amidst heavy showers of rain." Made me think of a quote within a quote and made me think of "I am a leaf on the wind, watch how I soar" (what Wash said in the movie Serenity) Instantly made me two things one was from the famed quote from one of my all time favorite shows/movies the movie Serenity, spun off from the short lived but cult famed Joss Wheadon television show Firefly that was canceled by Fox.

But then I went one step further and used as a blue print for my poem, the Lord Alfred Tennyson poem, a quote from the great written poem, "The Charge of the Light Brigade" and the final stanza as my inspiration.

"Cannons to the right of them,
Cannons to the left of them,
Cannons in front of them,
Volleyed and thundered;
Stormed at with shot and shell,
Boldly they rode and well,
Into the jaws of Death,
Into the moth of Hell,
Rode the six hundred."

So I wanted to combine the two quotes and using both what Hoban "Wash" Washbourne said in that famed scene for those of you that have not seen the movie and broke it up all while creating a poem around this famed poetic passage from Tennyson.
