Quote:Originally posted by SHINYGOODGUY: Yeah, I just saw the numbers on CNN or some such cable channel. Not surprising and here's why: I think that most folks had fallen for the whole "American Patriot" vibe, and that brings with it a certain expectation of "Apple Pie, Mom and Chevrolet" - a down home goodness, if you will. Folks complaining about how the revolution got carried away and is now gone in a different direction than what the Founding Fathers had in mind (according to their beliefs). But instead got a bunch of angry folk physically challenging our government, claiming that poor people are sitting back collecting welfare and calling people on their Obama phones and watching Jerry Springer on their 40-inch TVs. Meanwhile, a rancher is benefitting from not paying his fair share to the very government that provides schools, roads and grazing land for his business to thrive - this guy was making millions, but wanted a free ride. Meanwhile #2, you have folks carrying long guns, convinced that they're doing the right thing by pointing their weapons at their fellow Americans just doing their job. And that's just one of many examples. Meanwhile #3, you have "elected" officials looking to gridlock government with their minority beliefs - their views on abortion, public works, running government, even how the president is leading our nation. Now, every American has the right to address these grievances, but not to throw a monkey wrench into the system so that nothing gets done. That doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Government needs to function, even just to open up our national parks. We are in desperate need of rebuilding our infrastructure - roads, bridges, rails and such. That could also help stimulate the economy. Imagine putting people to work rebuilding our sorry ass bridges. It would put people to work, those folks could feed their families and pay their mortgages. Economy gets cranking, which will create more jobs because we'll need more builders building homes and the like. Now, Tea Party people stop all that from happening and Congress reaches an all-time low in resolutions, and well, you get the picture............nothing gets done. People are tired of that. They want to see progress, they want to work, they want more money, higher pay and their tax dollars working to improve their lives. The Tea Party blocks all that. Nobody wants to hear that anymore, plus it affects the bottom line........the purse/wallet. It is no longer reasonable stopping the mailman from delivering the mail, or the national parks to be closed, or allowing a rich farmer from grazing his horses for free, or allowing our bridges to crumble (they could very well crumble while you're on it). People are also tired of holding our government, hospitals, and in general, our daily lives hostage. The Tea Party is disrupting the normal course of things. So, my question is this: Is it right for a handful of people to control the fate of the nation, merely because they want to be proven right? Should the country have 1 solitary religion? Can they make me, or anyone, go to "their" church, and follow their belief system? Does anyone have the right to tell me how to live my life? My guess is that people are sick and tired of being told what to do and how to think. SGG Quote:Originally posted by ElvisChrist: Down to nearly half what it was at its peak!
