U.S. May Launch Strike if North Korea Reaches for Nuclear Trigger

The U.S. is prepared to launch a preemptive strike with conventional weapons against North Korea should officials become convinced that North Korea is about to follow through with a nuclear weapons test, multiple senior U.S. intelligence officials told NBC News.

Good. Great. Grand!

Let's just go to war with everybody and blow this whole fucking planet up!

Preemptive strike, they say? I guess now we're in the business of executing people for thought crime too, huh?

If I wanted all of this happening now, I would have just voted for Hillary.

Has it been three months. So many disappointed Trump voters. I swear, they're all whining, crying or both. It's hard to tell. They were all so smart when telling us why Trump should be president. Some of us tried to tell them, first, Trump has been a democrat most of his life. And two, he is lying. Something he has been doing all his life. Three, he is corrupt. Needs to go to jail corrupt.

All we heard back was Hillary, Hillary, Hillary. Well, the jokes on you. I hated her as a candidate too, but Trump? Hey don't worry the fix is in, he's changing, so lets hope for the best shall we. Stop whining....

And lets get those dirty bastards the Russians

Agreed. Not happy with how things are going so far, but it would take a hell of a lot more for me to regret keeping Hillary out.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

A whole string of crazy Kims played better chess than a whole string of (one hopes) sane Americans. NK has the largest (number of soldiers) army in the entire world, and 3/4 of them are forward based at the DMZ - 30 miles from Seoul.

Nobody dares to do anything because no one is able to stop the full-scale invasion response that would be the likely result.

Meanwhile, China has no motivation to leash the crazy attack dog, and no one is about to try and make China do anything, either.

Somebody give me the Cliff's Notes version of the whole North/South Korea thing. If North Korea is this big terrible monster that we've been told that they have always been, how is South Korea even a thing?

I'm not saying that I believe anything or don't believe anything we've been told. I just can't wrap my head around any of it.

Okay, first there was a war, which wasn't a standalone, but WWII spillover. This came directly after the Soviet-backed Maoist revolution, so form 1950-1960 Russia-China were one political entity. The US fought NK who had the backing of that entity.
After the Korean war, the South had a US token force, which was not enough to defend S. Korea, but was enough to say "attacking here is going to war with America.

After the Sino-Soviet split in 1960, NK became a Chinese thing, so it was a Beijing puppet, and couldn't really go to war without Chinese approval. Japan and America were both beefing up Korea, as their little post war puppet. And then in time, Korea become an industrial power in its own right, and was able to upgrade its wartime army to a serious force. It's worth bearing in mind that they won the war the first time.

So, now you have S. Korea, which has undoubtedly more military might than N. Korea, and is backed by the US and Japan, and N. Korea, which is backed by China.

Then there's data:

North Korea
Population 25 million
Per capita GDP $500

South Korea
Population 50 million
Per capita GDP $25,000

That's also an issue.

Thanks.

Sounds to me like China and the US have set themselves up with nice plausible deniability scenarios.

Everything is fake.

U.S. sends two more aircraft carrier groups to the Korean Peninsula following Pyongyang’s missile test

The U.S. directed two additional aircraft carrier groups toward the Korean Peninsula Tuesday amid escalating tensions in the region and as Vice President Mike Pence again spoke harshly of Pyongyang during a visit to Japan.

In addition to the U.S.S. Carl Vinson strike group, which had already been directed toward the area, the Pentagon has sent the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan and the U.S.S. Nimitz toward the Sea of Japan as part of a larger show of force following North Korea's missile tests.
