No matter your political leanings this is a great article. I have always wondered how these political advisors operate, how they "submit a bill for payment" ... of millions of dollars. How do they sell themselves and their worth? Definite insights into how these people *make things happen.* Massive greed for power and money is an obvious motivator, "Manafort wanted to be an Oligarch."

Side note: I was wrong about the relationship between Manafort and Yanakovich. I thought Manafort started dressing and cutting his hair to look like Yanakovich, when the opposite was what happened.

His work, the source of the status he cherished, had taken a devastating turn. For nearly a decade, he had counted primarily on a single client, albeit an exceedingly lucrative one. He’d been the chief political strategist to the man who became the president of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, with whom he’d developed a highly personal relationship. Manafort would swim naked with his boss outside his banya, play tennis with him at his palace (“Of course, I let him win,” Manafort made it known), and generally serve as an arbiter of power in a vast country. One of his deputies, Rick Gates, once boasted to a group of Washington lobbyists, “You have to understand, we’ve been working in Ukraine a long time, and Paul has a whole separate shadow government structure … In every ministry, he has a guy.” Only a small handful of Americans—oil executives, Cold War spymasters—could claim to have ever amassed such influence in a foreign regime. The power had helped fill Manafort’s bank accounts; according to his recent indictment, he had tens of millions of dollars stashed in havens like Cyprus and the Grenadines.

Manafort had profited from the sort of excesses that make a country ripe for revolution. And in the early months of 2014, protesters gathered on the Maidan, Kiev’s Independence Square, and swept his patron from power. Fearing for his life, Yanukovych sought protective shelter in Russia. Manafort avoided any harm by keeping a careful distance from the enflamed city. But in his Kiev office, he’d left behind a safe filled with papers that he would not have wanted to fall into public view or the wrong hands.

6ixStringJack, the proper way to communicate with humans is in person. You know, in the same room? Once you got that personal touch, then you expand it with email or messages at fireflyfans.net. Until you see them in person, you can't know what you are dealing with. How's it going with your interactions in Indiana with your neighbors, friends, bosses, co-workers? Not so good, is it? I think they smell something rotten about you, at least if I go by your more revealing personal stories. The deal about Manafort is that Trump hired the guy after meeting him. That shows a real lack of good judgment on Trump's part. Or Trump has no sense of smell when somebody rotten shakes his hand. OMG! Maybe Manafort was exactly what Trump wanted! That's terrible!

If you must know, my own personal job outlook is looking good now. I made my way into a company on the absolute ground floor and there might be a lot more room for advancement there for performers than I thought possible and my name is getting some recognition before my 90 day evaluation period is even 2/3rds up.

The market in general is shit, and there was no way I was going to walk into anything making a fraction of what I used to. Sucks to be most people. Cling to whatever job you have for dear life.
