A lot of people here talked of John Bolton before, many old fireflyfans didn't like this guy.

Bolton. His name would pop up in the early days of fireflyfans online community, said his expiry date was gone and he was a crazy Neo-Con ... He was a foreign policy adviser to candidate Mitt Romney. Perhaps some American people may have voted Trump because they did not want the same old politics from Washington, I have heard people say online message board forums and social media this Bolton is biggest war mongering neocons out there. Bolton seems to be of the same bunch as Brzezinski, and Kissinger, he has no regrets or shame on the Iraq war. At the age of 15 he took time off school to campaign for Barry Goldwater in the 1964 presidential campaign. Though raised an Episcopalian, Goldwater was the first candidate with ethnically Jewish heritage to be nominated for President by a major American party. Former U.S. Senator Prescott Bush, a moderate Republican from Connecticut, was a friend of Goldwater and supported him in the general election campaign. Bush's son, George H. W. Bush (then running for the Senate from Texas against Democrat Ralph Yarborough), was also a strong Goldwater supporter in both the nomination and general election campaigns. Goldwater lost to President Lyndon Johnson by a landslide, pulling down the GOP, which lost many seats in both houses of Congress. Goldwater was grief-stricken, by the assassination of Kennedy and was greatly disappointed that his opponent in 1964 would not be Kennedy but instead his Vice President, former Senate Majority Leader Lyndon B. Johnson of Texas. Goldwater disliked Johnson (saying he, "....used every dirty trick in the bag."), and Richard M. Nixon of California (whom he later called, "...the most dishonest individual I have ever met in my life."). In 1975, Goldwater wrote to Shlomo Arnon: "The subject of UFOs has interested me for some long time. About ten or twelve years ago I made an effort to find out what was in the building at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base where the information has been stored that has been collected by the Air Force, and I was understandably denied this request. It is still classified above Top Secret." Goldwater only won his home state of Arizona and five states in the Deep South. At Yale University, where Bolton studied law, he recalled in his memoir feeling like a "space alien" among the campus anti-Vietnam war activists. Bill and Hillary Clinton were among his classmates, Bolton went on to serve in the administrations of Ronald Reagan, George HW Bush and George W Bush.

Bolton was once memorably branded by a cable television host as "a massive neocon on steroids". Bolton is also involved with a number of politically conservative think tanks, policy institutes and special interest groups, including the Institute of East-West Dynamics, the National Rifle Association, the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, Project for the New American Century, Jewish Institute for National Security of America (JINSA), Committee for Peace and Security in the Gulf, the Council for National Policy, and the Gatestone Institute. He was a supporter of the Iraq War and continues to support his decision. He has continuously supported military action and regime change in Syria, Libya, and Iran... the Libyan war which perhaps led to the creation of ISIS funded by people in Turkey and Gulf States and the islamist refugee invasion of Europe. In 2002, Bolton accused Cuba of transfers of biological weapons technology to rogue states and called on it "to fully comply with all of its obligations under the Biological Weapons Convention." According to a Scripps Howard News Service article, Bolton "wanted to say that Cuba had a biological weapons capacity and that it was exporting it to other nations. The intelligence analysts seemed to want to limit the assessment to a declaration that Cuba 'could' develop such weapons." Bolton supported the NATO-led military intervention in Libya that toppled the regime of Moammar Gadhafi. Kentucky Republican Senator Rand Paul described Mr Bolton last year in an op-ed as "hell-bent on repeating virtually every foreign policy mistake the US has made in the last 15 years".

There are rumors out there some of President Donald Trumps old tweet criticized Bolton as unfit during the Bush Presidency. Bolton, 69, has advocated military force against both Iran and North Korea....is this at the same time!? Bolton will be Mr Trump's third national security adviser in the 14 months of the administration and is to take over next month

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

"John Bolton....1 year and 2 months in...Are the Bush Cheney Era Neo-Cons back in the Whitehouse?"

God I hope not.

So anyway ... anyone up for a rational, fact-based, and civil discussion about the topic?

When I heard Trump name him, I was alarmed Trump was sinking into the swamp.

Is this his worst appointment?

"Is this his worst appointment?" I think it is.

And now I'm going to get into speculative mind-reading. What I think Trump likes about Bolton isn't his neo-con agenda, though they both share a completely irrational hatred of Iran. What I think Trump likes about Bolton is that Bolton is an in-your-face, guns-blazing, confrontationalist. In any case, hopefully Trump is so egotistical won't let Bolton near any policy-making.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

I read an interesting interpretation of John Bolton from The Saker. Apparently, Bolton is planning on ridding his staff of any Obama holdovers, plus potential "leakers".

Have you ever heard of a "hatchet man"?

Maybe that's why he was appointed.

Afterwards, as CEO, you can get rid of the very unpopular figure. Just a thought; other interpretations are possible.

Time will tell.

Very few things are done without a reason. Divining the reason can be difficult.
