Saw it on RT and ZH. Spent a LITTLE time wondering what an "isotope rocket" is.

Russians claim to have a nuclear-powered missile.

Say what?

The way you MIGHT have a nuclear-powered missile is if you could create a small enough reactor with a good-enough heat exchange to heat air fast enough to act as a propellant. ("They're operating with an unshielded containment") But it might spray fissionable material out the back end.

Now, what is an "isotope" rocket? The only thing we can think of is some sort of charged isotope which is magnetically-bottled sufficiently to cause a nuclear chain reaction hot enough to create plasma (MORE charged particles that can be directed by magnetic field.) I have no idea if any of that's even possible as a rocket engine, just wild-ass speculation on our part.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Interesting.

But whatever it was, the US government says it already has its own, and it works and the Russians are just losers and will never make it work because it's impossible. And I know it's true because I heard it on the news.

And if democrats don't do anything different, how are they any better?

Yield ? What are you talking about ? Nothing happened in Russia. There was no explosion. Everything's fine.

Go away.

Not sure what you are talking about. Is this sarcasm?

I was wondering about the explosive force resulting from an explosion originating with a Nuclear Reactor. Not the same as a nuclear bomb, but still a nuclear source, and an explosion.

JAYNZE, I accuse you of posting from a psychiatric hospital in Israel.

See? Anyone can accuse anybody of anything. But is there solid evidence the back it up?

Seeing as this is a British source famously anti-Russian, and probably quoting
'what Kiev said' I'm not going to bother reading it. It's probably as bullshit as most M$M stories.

As for the original Nuclear Isotope Rocket story

Quote:

Rosatom said the explosion occurred while the engineers were testing a "nuclear isotope power source" for a rocket engine. Local authorities in nearby Severodvinsk, a city of 183,000, reported a brief spike in radiation levels after the explosion, but said it didn't pose any health hazards.

Authorities in Severodvinsk, 47km (29 miles) east of Nyonoksa said that radiation levels shortly after the blast were higher than normal for about 40 minutes but returned to normal.

The 9M730 Burevestnik or "Petrel", NATO reporting name: SSC-X-9 a Russian experimental nuclear-powered, nuclear-armed cruise missile under development for the Russian Armed Forces. The missile has an essentially unlimited range. The Burevestnik is one of the five new Russian strategic weapons unveiled by Russian President Vladimir Putin on 1 March 2018.

According to James Hockenhull, the UK's Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI), the Burevestnik is a "sub-sonic nuclear-powered cruise missile system which has global reach and would allow attack from unexpected directions". Per Hockenhull, the missile would have "a near indefinite loiter time"

Vladimir Putin stated that the scientists killed in the August 8th explosion had been testing an “unparalleled” weapon: “We are talking about the most advanced and unparalleled technical ideas and solutions about weapons design to ensure Russia’s sovereignty and security for decades to come". He also noted that the "weapon is to be perfected regardless of anything"
