When I saw this following tweet in an article entitled "This Is the Most Bizarre Grammar Rule You Probably Never Heard Of
But I've been following it all my life, and so have you." and they said that native English speakers were never taught it but simply just use it automatically, I thought I was going to read the rest of the article and say, "um.... no. I do remember learning that."

But I don't.

I just found that article really interesting since I worked in a field where I'd talk to a lot of people from all over the world, many of whom spoke English as a secondary language, and having never actually learned much of any foreign language myself I couldn't understand how they could do so great at learning the words and meanings themselves, but always seemed to have a lot of them in the wrong order whether it was spoken or written.

I mean, it's obvious why idioms don't fly when in these situations, and you quickly learn never to use them (at least in a business setting that doesn't allow for more time for personal interactions and explaining what the idiom means), but this one little rule here is just an example of thousands that we use every day when writing or speaking.

How difficult it must be to truly learn and properly use a language you didn't grow up with. I'd say that being a multi-linguist with a mastery of the definitions and proper usage of the words, especially if you can mimic the dialect, is a form of art.
