The 4% Rule for Retirement Is Back

https://www.wsj.com/personal-finance/retirement/the-4-rule-for-retirem
ent-is-back-627ef287?mod=hp_lead_pos5

Quote:

Using the method, someone who retires today with a $1 million portfolio with 40% in stocks and 60% in bonds would spend no more than $40,000 in 2024 from that portfolio. Assuming inflation rises 3% next year, the investor would give himself a raise to $41,200 in 2025, regardless of the market’s performance.

Most Post-Boomer Americans are going to live on Social Security and other programs in retirement, and if they're lucky maybe they've got $50k in a retirement account for emergencies, if they even have a retirement account in the first place. A good majority of them won't even own houses free and clear by the time they retire, and a hefty portion of their SSI will be going toward rent or mortgages every month.

Anybody who can't manage to live on a $1 Million retirement nest-egg deserves zero sympathy from anybody.

When was the rule not 4%?

When the market was growing, the % rule was less? When Bidenflation is highest, the % Rule is greatest?

So, when the world is flourishing, starve. And when the world is on fire and in shambles, spend like crazy?

Is that financially sound advice?

It's not financially sound advice.

But that's what they want you to do. That's what they need you to do.

I'm actually looking forward to everyone going broke and racking up those credit cards again now that all the pandemic money is gone. I get to live like I do because of all the idiots with no impulse control.

It turns out when people are flush with cash, all of my shit costs more money, and I don't like it.

Political correctness is just tyranny, with a smiley face.
