After a door plug on an Alaska Airlines-operated Boeing 737 MAX 9 blew off mid-flight, Elon Musk and other commentators quickly fingered a culprit: wokeness, with several raising that Boeing had made a minor change that added diversity, equity and inclusion as one factor in determining employee executive bonuses.

This is so facially absurd as to be detached from reality. In fact, it is only even fully intelligible to people already enmeshed in a sort anti-woke industrial complex that has developed in the right over the past few years for reasons from political pressure to good old fashioned racism.

Unfortunately, this includes rich and prominent like Musk, Donald Trump and would-be emulators including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

No. I read the article.

You don't even have to read the article to know that's not what it said because the title itself says the exact opposite of my thread title.

It was written by the New York Daily News Editorial Board though, so we know that whatever they have to say is the exact opposite of reality.

Here's what happens now....

If, after an investigation it is found that a white male was responsible for the incident, his name will be plastered all over the news for the collective mob to come for his head.

But if it is a black woman or a trans person who was responsible, you're never going to hear about this story again.

The 737 MAX story was previously about a criminally negligent engineering design causing two plane crashes. The negligent people were not punished.

Sully landed on the Hudson River after a birdstrike at 3,000 feet. He had 3 1/2 minutes to find a landing spot, and Teterboro and LaGuardia were too far away.

Without engine power, things get sticky. If their Auxilliary Power Unit was working, that can give them some electrical power and some flight controls, but no thrust. It usually needs high speed air intake, and perhaps the turbine blades were also damaged by the birds.
The Ram Air Turbine can give them electrical power and hydraulics, to help control the performance.
But gravity is not forgiving. Their Glideslope is governed by the aerodynamics of their lift profile. Dumping fuel could extend their glide range, but they are forfeiting any chance of using that fuel to restart engines. IIRC Embraer RJs had pretty good glide profile. They had to trade altitude for speed, to try to find a landing spot. They might have used Ground Effect Lift to keep aloft (at the end, at ground level), but this requires higher speed (squishing the air between wing and ground). Even at very shallow landing Angle of Attack, high speed can blow the tires when they touch.
They may have used heroic effort and ingenuity just getting to the runway, let alone trying to land successfully.

So far, doesn't sound like a DEI issue.
I don't know what the terrain was like in the area. Was there bodies of water? Were they frozen?

And also shooting down regularly scheduled civilian airliners.

Sounds like Russia celebrates Christmas in January.

So, scheduler at Azerbaijani Airlines chooses regular flights into barbaric belligerent invasion country's War Zone. perhaps I was incorrect, DEI might be at play here.
