Quote:Originally posted by SIGNYM: We had a good example of one problem in New Hampshire, with Democrats voting for Nikki Haley in order to swing the Republican vote. But it's worse than that. In CA, the two top vote-getters go on to the final vote. Even if that means two Democrats. And what about smaller parties? They never survive to the actual vote. Some voters would like a diversity of approaches, and when neither Democrats nor Republicans reflect their views, voting third party expresses dissatisfaction more clearly than "not voting". It hasn't worked out for CA, and I can't imagine why any state should adopt it.

The Republican one allows votes for all parties, the DEM ballot restricts some offices to registered Dem only. As an aside, I see a third party on the ballot called "American Independent California". It's characterized by Wikipedia as "extreme right wing". Curious, that. I wonder what their platform is. ----------- "It may be dangerous to be America's enemy, but to be America's friend is fatal." - Henry Kissinger Loving America is like loving an addicted spouse - SIGNYM

In CA, the Dem selection of Delegate for President is ONLY via inclusion of votes from Registered Democrat ballots. Votes from any other ballot are not used for selecting the Delegates for Dem President candidate. This is NOT an Open Primary. http://www.thegreenpapers.com/P24/CA-D#0305
