Republicans, joined by a handful of Democrats, voted to eliminate California’s electric vehicle policy, which had been adopted by 11 other states.

The 246-to-164 vote came a day after Republicans, joined by a few Democrats, voted to block California from requiring dealers in the state to sell an increasing percentage of zero-emission, medium and heavy-duty trucks over time. Lawmakers also voted on Wednesday to stop a state effort to reduce California’s levels of smog.

A "few" Democrats?

Try 35.

Get fucked, liars.

You are finished.

That story indicates that vote in The House was on Thursday 1 May.
And that another action on this bill was the day before, Wednesday 30 April.

In unrelated news:
On Monday 28 April Spain, Portugal, and France suffered a massive Blackout because clouds blocked the Sun and the wind died down, so Solar and Wind power collapsed.

On Tuesday, there was renewed attention on Spain’s renewable energy generation. The southern European nation is a leader in solar and wind power generation, with more than half of its energy last year having come from renewable sources. Portugal also generates a majority of its energy from renewable sources.

Questions remain about whether Spain’s heavy renewable energy supply may have made its grid system more susceptible to the type of outage that took place Monday. The thinking goes that non-renewable energy sources, such as coal and natural gas, can better weather the type of fluctuations observed Monday on Spain’s grid.

If you think that's bad, you should look into how much energy and CO2 emissions it costs to create the blades, and how many times that process needs to occur over the lifetime of a windmill.

Then consider the fact that there's nothing at all recyclable about those blades and the only things that can be done with them is to bury them, burn them, or throw them into the ocean. I'll let you guess which one is the most common method of disposal.

I've done all of this research before, and all of the numbers are buried in a thread here.

It's issues like this specifically why we can't even have reasonable discussions about anything in this country anymore. How can you rationalize with people who think in emotions?

It's like... Yeah dude. I'm not Nazi Hitler. I'd love it if we could magically make more than enough energy to go around by harnessing the sun's power and cow farts. I'd especially like it if we can seriously work on that solution instead of continually trying to force out an undercooked beta product on the public with government subsidies.

Fix the problem. Come up with a solution that not only works, but can be done at an affordable price point. And a solution that is extremely low maintenance and long-lasting.

Anything short of all of the above should be immediately thrown out the window and they can go back to R&D and work on something else.

In the meantime, those Nuclear plants aren't going to build themselves and they take about 10 years to put up with all the regulations. And I would say of all the things that can have most of the regulations removed without any negative effects, nuclear power plants ain't one of them.

If people actually want to see electric cars everywhere, it's the only way we're going to be able to reliably generate enough power to do it until the day some major breakthroughs in renewable energy and energy storage take place.

hmmmm.

If you think 1,000,000 dead birds from wind turbines is a big number, how many birds are killed by glass windows yearly in the USA? 1,000,000,000

How many birds are killed by cats? 2,400,000,000

How many chickens (birds!) are killed every year? 9,500,000,000

Portugal closed their last coal power plant in 2021.

I read yesterday that Spain's last coal power plant closed in March. Now that info seems to be scrubbed.

Spain's Socialist Party government is closing all reliable power plants.

On 16 April, 100% of Spain's grid ran on alternative energy.

On 21 April, 79% of the supply was from solar.

On 28 April, 75% of power was from renewable sources, and 60% was from solar, at the moment of Iberian Blackout.

To posit and maintain the pretense that wind and solar power is affordable, they are being made without the network control equipment that grids need.

They're setting Europe up for a huge foreign invasion. They will be completely defenseless.

Maybe, fearing more might follow Brexit and they'd see their power start to wane as a few of the larger Western European countries opt out of the EU, the unelected EU leadership is planning on being the Occupying Force themselves?

If they waited on that for a decade or two, they may no longer have the power to do this.
