That one is going to be hard to do since outside of a few ineffectual Republican governors that completely had their hands tied the state of Illinois has been a Democratic stronghold on all levels of government. They currently have a super majority in Springfield as well right now, so the likelihood that this mileage tax will pass is much higher than the last time they tried passing it.
The state is beyond bankrupt and beyond saving.
The good news is that they shouldn't have any problems legalizing weed now since the whores are so desperate for any new source of tax revenue. Bad news is I'm sure they're not going to allow anybody to grow their own like most other states have done and that will still be a criminal offense.

This doesn't reveal anything of the sort. It was known that Trump had business dealings with Russia. There are 144 million people living in Russia. Why would you automatically assume that any business he had there was tied to evil Russian high ranking members looking to infiltrate American Government unless that was what you wanted to believe? Further, if Mueller comes out and says that nothing nefarious was going on with Trump and Russia will you drop your 2 year long campaign?

One likely explanation is that Trump didn’t want to have a meeting where he would have to criticize Putin.
And here, special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation comes into play. Just before the summit, Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen revealed that his client was angling to build a Trump Tower in Moscow, even offering Putin the $50 million penthouse apartment, at the same time that he was running for president, promising to restore good relations with Russia if elected and telling his crowds that he had no business deals in that country. This is the blackmail that Putin may have been holding over Trump all along. Quite aside from the scuzzy (and possibly impeachable) nature of this relationship, it precludes Trump—and prevents the United States—from having a coherent policy toward Russia, from dealing with any threats (or opportunities) that Putin poses.

If Mueller thinks Trump committed a federal crime, his remedy is to recommend impeachment in a report to the attorney general. The attorney general, in turn, is supposed to tell Congress the outcome of the special counsel’s investigation and decide whether the report should be made public. Did you catch the problem? The acting attorney general is Matthew Whitaker, Trump’s creature and a vigorous critic of Mueller’s investigation. Mueller has every reason to expect that Whitaker will suppress the report and limit what he shows to Congress.
A formal report is not, however, Mueller’s only way to tell the Nation (and the GOP controlled senate, which will never impeach) about his conclusions. Mueller could make his report to the Nation through court filings against Trump confederates like Manafort and Cohen. On Monday, Mueller accused Manafort of lying to investigators, breaching his cooperation agreement, and committing further federal crimes. The sentencing briefs will let Mueller tell the story of how Manafort lied about the Trump campaign — and, by extension, lay out the evidence of what the Trump campaign did.
Cohen’s case lets Mueller do the same thing — tell a story, make a report — despite the GOP’s efforts to hush Mueller.
The remarkable thing about Cohen’s plea was its substance. The president of the United States’ personal lawyer admitted to lying to Congress about the president’s business activities with a hostile foreign power, in order to support the president’s story. In any rational era, that would be earthshaking. Now it’s barely a blip. Over the past two years, we’ve become accustomed to headlines like “President’s Campaign Manager Convicted of Fraud” and “President’s Personal Lawyer Paid for Adult Actress’s Silence.” We’re numb to it all. But these are the sorts of developments that would, under normal circumstances, end a presidency.
They still might. Cohen’s plea is only one shoe dropping in a boot warehouse. Who else lied to Congress? They’re not just in danger from Mueller, either. In weeks the Democratic majority will take over the House of Representatives. Control of committees will shift, and subpoenas will fly like arrows at Agincourt. Each hearing will present new terrible choices: Take the Fifth, tell uncomfortable truths, or lie and court perjury charges?

You're right. The GOP controlled Senate would never impeach. A Democrat controlled Senate couldn't impeach either. It's the House of Representative's job to impeach. It's the Senate's job to either convict or acquit after the impeachment.

Last week came the astounding revelation that Paul Manafort was acting as a double agent inside Mueller’s office. It’s hard to imagine anything lower than what Manafort did. But also trotting on stage last week were the conspiracy-loving tag team of Roger Stone and Jerome Corsi. In a draft court filing related to a collapsed plea deal with Corsi, 72, Mueller also revealed that in email exchanges, Stone told Corsi to get hold of hacked emails from WikiLeaks and that the pair discussed optimum times to release them in order to damage Clinton’s candidacy. Stone and Corsi have ties to Alex Jones’s ultra-right conspiracy site, Infowars, and Corsi was the man behind the false birther campaign against Barack Obama and Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, a rightwing group that tried to besmirch John Kerry’s military record in his 2004 bid to become president. Stone is a trickster from way back (he even has a Nixon tattoo on his back).

The tell tale sign will be how much of this weeks court filings are open for public view. If a lot remains sealed then I think the investigation in not that close to being over.

The Flynn memo is out and it's mostly redacted. That suggests Mueller isn't ready to reveal anything to those within his sights. The memo does reveal there are several investigations regarding what Flynn told them.

At first they were using Trump mostly as an icebreaker. They expected Hillary to win and wanted to discredit her completely. Trump was the perfect vehicle for discrediting not only Hillary but the entire electoral system. Putin’s great advantage is that, unlike Soviet propagandists, he is not selling an ideology. I call him the merchant of doubt. His message is, We are shit, you are shit, and all of this is bullshit. What democracy? Trump was the ideal agent of chaos.
Trump kept saying that the election will be rigged. This was the Kremlin line. I think their main script was that Hillary would win in a close battle and #ElectionIsRigged would be a hashtag that would discredit her. She would be paralyzed. She’d be facing a Republican congress, which would immediately begin impeachment proceedings.
And then they saw that they had a shot at the jackpot. In its last stages, the campaign changed. They started using WikiLeaks when they sensed that they had a chance of getting Trump into office.

The GOP Senators don't have a problem with any of it because it was so long ago that, hey, for the Senators the statue of limitations means it might just as well have never happened at all because Trump can't be prosecuted for it.
Old crimes, where all the details have finally been uncovered don't count with the GOP. And the GOP won't look into new crimes where most the details are still being slowly revealed.

Just before Donald Trump was sworn in, the U.S. Senate began an investigation into whether the newly elected president of the United States had conspired with Russia to steal the election.
It was an astounding development, one that plenty of Americans treated with skepticism.
And yet at every turn, Trump himself seemed to invite scrutiny — not just of his campaign’s ties to Russia but of the ways his company’s vast international activities might become conflicts of interest for someone who would soon be running the world’s largest economy.
This was a man who refused to make public his tax returns or place his business interests into a blind trust. Essentially, Trump’s message to the American people was simply: Trust me.
It didn’t take long for his conduct as president, not to mention the work of the special prosecutor, to make that a difficult endeavor. Trust Trump at his word? Like when he said during his campaign that he had no business dealings in Russia? “For the record, I have ZERO investments in Russia,” he said in a July 26, 2016 tweet, even as we now know he was busy pursuing one clear through the summer. Special prosecutor Robert Mueller’s team has produced many indictments. As each piece of evidence surfaces, even the most loyal Trump supporters should have diminishing confidence that he is telling the truth when he insists he did not know of or collude with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s interference in the election.
Developments last week produced another crop of reasons to doubt his word. And more steps expected Friday in the criminal probe into the campaign’s ties to Russia are likely to only intensify those doubts. That’s when Mueller is to outline for a federal judge the many lies he claims Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort told investigators, even after he promised to cooperate.
Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen admitted he lied to Congress on several occasions in 2017 about Trump’s pursuit of a hotel deal in Moscow during the presidential campaign. To lower the pressure in Congress and in the press over Trump’s ties to Russia, Cohen had told the Senate and House that all discussions about a proposed Trump-branded hotel in Moscow had ended long before the presidential primaries had begun.
It was old news, and just business, he said. And no, the company had not been in conversations with Russian officials about help for the project, and neither he nor Trump had ever planned to go to Moscow to talk about the hotel.
Of course, none of it was true.
The conversations about the hotel continued through mid-2016, past the time Trump had secured the nomination — a time when we expect candidates to put aside private ambitions and dedicate themselves to public service. Plans for Cohen to meet Putin or the prime minister in Russia were made. Tentative plans even called for Trump to fly to Russia after the GOP convention.
For the past two years, Team Trump has tried to conceal these facts from the American people. Now, with Cohen’s guilty plea, we know the truth.
What else will we know by the time Mueller’s investigation is completed?
Mueller must be allowed to continue his work. The Republican leaders in Congress should shake off their shackles and resurrect Sen. Jeff Flake’s bill that would protect Mueller from a politically motivated firing should things get too uncomfortable for Trump.

People say to me, “Well, sometimes you seem to present Trump as a criminal mastermind. Other times you seem to be presenting him as someone who’s stupid.”
There is a very particular type of intelligence that someone who is pathologically criminal possesses. That is that they have an incredible instinct for their own self-preservation. They have an incredible instinct for their own gain that overwhelms everything else and can make them seem smart in certain respects because they’re able to nose out whatever is in their best interest in terms of making money or benefiting in some other way.
Donald Trump clearly has lived his whole life with that particular type of intelligence. I don’t think he’s a very sophisticated or smart man. I don’t even think he knows very much about business, even though he’s been in business for 30 years. He is smart in the same way, and I’ll only use this analogy because I have dogs that are hounds. Hounds are particularly good at understanding their own self-interest when they want to get food, for instance. They can become the smartest dogs you've ever seen in your life if there is food in the offing.
Otherwise, and I say this regrettably regarding my own dogs, they’re not that smart necessarily. They become smart in the right circumstance. That’s Donald Trump in a nutshell.
Why doesn't Trump just resign, take all his money, go somewhere that he can't be extradited from, and walk away from it all?
Look at it this way. While this is not going to end well for President Trump, he did become president of the United States. Up until a certain point, he would have been able to make the case to someone that he had, for all his past crimes and malfeasance, lived life in a way that allowed him to at least appear successful, have a certain amount of wealth, win the first-ever election that he ran in and become essentially the most powerful man on Earth.
That’s a lot of positive reinforcement for Donald Trump to get. It likewise encouraged his feeling that he will get away with everything he’s been doing for years and everything he did during the campaign. As the old saying goes, “Pride goeth before the fall.” That’s exactly the situation here. He has flown far too high for his skills. He is now exposed in the international sphere for what he is. (But back in Texas, he is a genius with the Trump lovers, who can't comprehend that Trump has been exposed.)

Hmmm. “We did not have a common value system.” I assume that Tillerson thinks of himself as an honest person, which means he thinks of Trump as a liar and a crook. He’s just too polite to say so.
