Evangelical magazine Christianity Today calls for Trump's removal after impeachment

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump tweeted:

A far left magazine, or very “progressive,” as some would call it, which has been doing poorly and hasn’t been involved with the Billy Graham family for many years, Christianity Today, knows nothing about reading a perfect transcript of a routine phone call and would rather have a Radical Left nonbeliever, who wants to take your religion & your guns, than Donald Trump as your President. No President has done more for the Evangelical community, and it’s not even close. You’ll not get anything from those Dems on stage. I won’t be reading ET again!

Christianity Today’s Editorial on Trump: 5 of Its Sharpest Rebukes

1. The editorial argues that the actions under investigation in the impeachment process were immoral.

2. It says the president traffics in lies and slander.

3. It says political victories like the appointment of conservative justices to the Supreme Court do not outweigh Mr. Trump’s ‘moral deficiencies.’

4. It makes a direct appeal to evangelicals to remember whom they ultimately serve.

5. And it warns Christian supporters of Mr. Trump that they are risking the reputation of their religion.

Given that you guys have vomited that "Christian" editorial all over the forums, I'm going to proclaim that it's safe to say that ultra-Right evangelicals can be put on the list of people you love now too.

So let's see now... That's...

Vladimir Putin
John Bolton
Robert Mueller
John McCain
George W Bush
CIA
FBI
James Comey
The Evangelical Right C/O Mark Galli

I'm not missing anybody there, am I, Captain?

Should Mark Galli be higher on the list too?

I had a little look at Mark Galli's Twatter history. I thought it was kind of strange that he stopped using it in March of 2018, but I think I solved that mystery (see below).

Here's a few bangers that he put out in the past though:

Kennedy’s words anticipated some of the key themes found in King’s soaring March on Washington address two months later. And that shared moral force, that commonality of thinking between the two speeches, is the most important reason to remember the president’s address, 50 years ago today: it reminds us of a forgotten moment of the civil rights era, when presidential leadership and grass-roots activism worked in creative tension to turn the narrative of civil rights from a regional issue into a national story promoting racial equality and democratic renewal.

Civil Rights for EVERYBODY!

6ix, it would take 3/4th of the State Legislatures to make the changes you think President Pence can do all by himself. On the other hand, Pence or Trump can start the Battle of Armageddon, the one in the Bible except with H-bombs instead of Angels, with no permission from Congress. That is a serious flaw in the Federal Government, to place all that power to destroy the country into one President's push-button. I think, maybe, Congress should pass a law forbidding that, but Congress has not declared War since 1942. It was the Declaration of War with Rumania on June 4, 1942. The Senate unanimously approved the resolution, 73 to 0.

In the Trump trial, Giuliani needs to explain this interview, under oath:

In a remarkable interview with New York magazine, Rudy Giuliani, President Donald Trump's lawyer, painted George Soros as a puppet master who has secretly been pulling the strings in Ukraine. Soros is a frequent target of conspiracy theories about Jews controlling the world.

"Don’t tell me I’m anti-Semitic if I oppose him," Giuliani said. "Soros is hardly a Jew. I’m more of a Jew than Soros is. I probably know more about — he doesn’t go to church, he doesn’t go to religion — synagogue. He doesn’t belong to a synagogue, he doesn’t support Israel, he’s an enemy of Israel. He’s elected eight anarchist DAs in the United States. He’s a horrible human being."

He said the former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch, who testified in the impeachment inquiry that she'd been smeared and forced out of her job by Giuliani, was "controlled" by Soros.

"He [Soros] put all four ambassadors there. And he’s employing the FBI agents," Giuliani told the magazine.

More Giuliani/Trump nuttiness at
www.nbcnews.com/politics/trump-impeachment-inquiry/giuliani-says-he-s-

Giuliani expressed hope that he would be one of the lawyers representing Trump in his Senate impeachment trial, because he could cross-examine Democrats. But first, Giuliani needs to be a witness for the prosecution. Then he can cross-examine himself. That will be ludicrously entertaining TV when he spews conspiracy theories with no evidence more solid than "I heard somewhere but I forget where."

Republican Group to Run Ad on Fox News Demanding Testimony from Key White House Officials in Trump Impeachment Trial

A Republican group is launching an ad campaign to demand that several key White House officials, such as chief of staff Mick Mulvaney and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, testify in the impeachment process against President Donald Trump.

Republicans for the Rule of Law, a conservative organization whose stated purpose is "defending the institutions of our republic," will air the 30-second video on Thursday during Fox & Friends and Lou Dobbs Tonight.

"Key witnesses in the Ukraine scandal must testify," the ad states. The group goes on to demand testimony from Mulvaney, Pompeo, Trump's personal attorney Rudy Giuliani and former national security adviser John Bolton.

The group is also targeting four Republican senators who could be the key to Democrats getting additional witnesses in the Senate trial: Mitt Romney of Utah, Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Lamar Alexander of Tennessee. These lawmakers are the Senate's most likely Republican members to rebuke the president and support his removal.

G, I have a question for you. Have you noticed how we rarely speak of the talking heads on the right? In contrast, our trolling friends are absolutely owned by the rest of the media. Their hate runs so deep they've convinced themselves it's all fake. That's extreme paranoia. Take show hosts like Rachel Maddow. The way they obsess about her shows them to be unbalanced. She’s really gotten into their heads.

The same can be said about MSN, MSNBC, and CNN. And so on and so on and so on…
They are so obsessed and hateful they still post as though Trump hasn’t been impeached. This as well as their posts in the other threads continue to show they can’t handle the truth. It’s all one need know about them to understand their mental health status. That status would be; as bad as it gets.

Christianity Today again slams Trump, raises issue of 'unconditional loyalty'

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Christianity Today, the magazine founded by the late Reverend Billy Graham, renewed its criticism of President Donald Trump in a new editorial that cited his "misuses of power" and asked fellow Christians to examine their loyalty to him, days after a controversial editorial that called for his impeachment.

Except for those goddamned fags.

Editor quits after Christian publication backs Trump amid evangelical divide

Napp Nazworth's decision to quit comes amid a divide among evangelical publications concerning President Trump. Nazworth, who had been at the outlet for more than eight years, announced his resignation on Twitter Monday night, calling the decision a "difficult choice" and adding that he "can't be an editor for a publication with that editorial voice."

"Like so many other media companies, they've chosen to silo themselves," he continued. "They've chosen to represent a narrow (and shrinking) slice of Christianity. That might be a good business decision, short term at least. But... it's bad for Democracy, and bad for the Gospel. It means there will be one more place where readers can go for bias confirmation, but one less place where readers can go to exercise their brains on diversity of thought."

Fact-Checking President Donald Trump In 2019

The promise and perils of a secret impeachment vote in the Senate

A trial in the US Senate, whatever evidence is presented, will end with Donald Trump’s acquittal. Republican majority leader Mitch McConnell has promised it. But if the vote were conducted in secret, 30 or more Republican senators would find the president’s dealings with Ukraine violated the Constitution. Or so said former Arizona senator Jeff Flake in September.

Republicans who believe Trump acted improperly should be willing to say so, even if it means falling out with the in-crowd. However, it seems there are 30 senators who do not have the courage of their convictions. Ever since, academics and pundits have been discussing the merits and drawbacks of a secret vote, while laying out the logistical path for approving cloaked ballots.

Senators could approve a secret impeachment vote if they wanted to. Impeachment trial rules are up to the senators and must pass by a simple majority — 51 out of 100 members.

Republicans are now in the majority and have 53 votes. Still, it wouldn’t take much GOP resistance to force McConnell to cede to a secret ballot. If just three Republicans premised their approval of the rest of the rules on a cloaked vote, they could make it happen.

If the only way senators can fulfill their constitutional duty to objectively judge the evidence and decide on guilt or acquittal is under the cloak of secrecy, it’s fair to ask whether they are up to the task of governance. Do they have the moral fiber to lead? Or, as one Twitter user crudely put it in response to talk of a mystery posse of Republican resistors, “profiles in pisspants.”

The wiser Senators know that Trump in a second term could do serious, yet temporary, damage to the GOP as did Bush in his second term, which was followed by a very temporary Senate landslide for Democrats. In 2006, the Democrats gained 5 seats in the Senate. In 2008, Dems gained 8 seats. But in 2010, the Dems lost 6 seats. 2014 Dems lost 9. The wiser Senators know its better to be rid of idiots like Bush, who crashed the economy. They know Trump is another idiot, too, despite his non-stop bragging about his ability to manage the economy when it is really the top 0.1% who are doing all the real thinking.

A secret impeachment ballot might sound crazy, but it’s actually quite possible. In fact, it would take only three senators to allow for that possibility. The House of Representatives. Article I, Section 3, of the Constitution does not set many parameters for the trial, except to say that “the Chief Justice shall preside,” and “no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two thirds of the Members present.” That means the Senate has sole authority to draft its own rules for the impeachment trial, without judicial or executive branch oversight.

You are confused. If 20 Senators do NOT want a voice vote, they can force the issue by having a real count of the vote, but the 20 can't force a record of who voted which way. If you don't like it, take it to the Supreme Court and get an answer back more to your liking in, maybe, 12 months.

What is a voice vote? - A vote in which the presiding officer states the question, then asks those in favor and against to say "Yea" or "Nay," respectively, and announces the result according to his or her judgment. The names or numbers of senators voting on each side are not recorded.

Elections are about how many hate your guts rather than how many like you. If Trump is the most hated, he will lose. His disapproval rating was 37% in 2017. Now it is 52.7%. He can't win at 52.7%. He will have to do something amazing in the next 10 months, like land on the moon or win the Afghanistan War or the S&P 500 increases by 20% or GDP up by 3%, or else he will lose the election to a plain vanilla Democrat.

According to current Senate procedure, McConnell will still need a simple majority—51 of the 53 Senate Republicans—to support any resolution outlining rules governing the trial. That means that if only three Republican senators were to break from the caucus, they could block any rule they didn’t like. (Vice President Mike Pence can’t break ties in impeachment matters.) "

On the Democratic side, Clinton fares only slightly better with a net negative of -21, registering a 31% favorable rating and a 52% unfavorable rating, according to the poll.

According to your wisdom, Trump should have lost. But thanks to the geography of 'flyover country' with a chock-a-block full 'basket of deplorables', Trump won.

538 might need to do a more nuanced analysis to figure out if these overall averages are accurately representative. They weren't the last time. Hillary won the popular vote, but Trump won in an electoral landslide. 538 might need to take a detailed geographic look, considering that's how presidents are actually elected.

In any case, this is completely ot of the op "Countdown Clock Until Trumps Removal 'Starts'".

Maybe you should take more note of the op when you post and stop trolling 'your tribe', if you can't actually address anyone's posts.

Once again, going off topic because you lose the argument...

Quote:

Each House shall keep a Journal of its Proceedings, and from time to time publish the same, excepting such Parts as may in their Judgment require Secrecy; and the Yeas and Nays of the Members of either House on any question shall, at the Desire of one fifth of those Present, be entered on the Journal….

The journal is published. If 20 or more senators desire them to be entered into the journal, than they will be entered into the journal.

It's cut and dry. There is zero need to go to the Supreme Court, and you're never going to get 33 GOP senators to go along with it.

You better find something else if you're going to get Trump out of office, because he's going to win in 2020 and nothing else you've done so far is going to change that.

Stay on topic.

(And, BTW... Michael Moore says Trump wins in a landslide if the election were held today, despite your polling and wishful thinking.)

Given that you guys have vomited that "Christian" editorial all over the forums, I'm going to proclaim that it's safe to say that ultra-Right evangelicals can be put on the list of people you love now too.

So let's see now... That's...

Vladimir Putin

6ix, you really are stupid about human motivation. Bolton is NOT loved by Democrats, but he does show that Republican Senators don't want him to testify. Not that you are capable of understanding, 6ix, but that means Republicans are afraid he is not a friendly witness for Trump's defense. Mueller did not "exonerate" Trump. Possibly Bolton won't, either, so the Republican Senators will make a wide variety of empty/dishonest/bogus/silly arguments that Bolton shouldn't testify. Maybe Bolton will "exonerate" Trump, but the GOP Senators are more concerned that he will burn Trump.

News Story: John Bolton is ready to testify. Senate Republicans aren’t ready to hear him. Mitch McConnell does not want to hear from someone who knows what Trump did with Ukraine.

Senate Democrats greeted the news as a new pressure point on their Republican colleagues, who have so far been pointedly uninterested in hearing from new witnesses against Trump. Bolton, a key figure in the Ukraine scandal whose testimony has not been taken, finally decided that he just needed someone to serve him a subpoena and he’d show up for the trial. How could Senate Republicans refuse to call him as a witness now, as Democrats have been demanding, when he’s all warmed up and ready to go? Do they not want to get to the bottom of it? But if there are four Republican senators willing to join with Democrats to summon additional witnesses and documents for the (eventual) trial, they did a good job of hiding it upon returning to the Capitol on Monday afternoon.

A crucial witness has made himself available—and has done it before the House hands over the impeachment articles. The Senate Republicans will have a hard time explaining why they don’t want to hear from him.

And BTW... the fact that Bolton wasn't willing to testify in the Dem lead house but is now willing to testify in the GOP lead senate.... well...

I would consider that a big red flag if I was hoping that he had anything to say that Democrats are hoping he would.

Especially worrying is the fact that Bolton only came out to say he would testify after the recent Iran shenanigans.

Bolton loves war. He loves it so much it's a sexual fetish for him. He hasn't been as sexually satisfied as he was after the drone strike in Iran since Trump was elected.

Bolton's history was NOT offensive to Trump when he hired him. Bolton did NOT do anything new for Trump that was offensive, other than telling Trump he was wasting time negotiating with North Korea at the same time Trump was building a special bomb to kill Kim. Kim would not give up his own nukes because that would be his death sentence with Trump. Remember Trump promising Kim would die by "Fire and Fury"? (Trump saying "Just kidding" didn't change Kim's low opinion of Trump as a dangerous nutjob; being nuts himself, Kim recognizes another nutjob.) That happened BEFORE Bolton was hired. Trump is too dumb to build a nuke, but he is smart enough to ask the Pentagon to make a nuke especially for Kim Jong-un's death by "Fire and Fury". President Harry S Truman was too dumb to know the difference between an A-bomb and H-bomb, but Truman was smart enough to override the Atomic Energy Commission recommendation AGAINST developing H-bombs. The Texas/Mexico Wall is very expensive and the cost for a W76-2 bomb to kill Kim Jong-un is CHEAP. The plan modifies a W76-1 warhead, which has an explosive yield of 100 kilotons — seven times the size of the weapon used against Hiroshima — to produce the W76-2, reportedly with a yield of “just” five-seven kilotons. None of this was Bolton's idea. It was ALL Trump, so that he could kill Kim using "Fire and Fury". That does not mean Bolton is a hero to Democrats. It means Trump is a very unwise man.

Mitch McConnell asserted that the Senate "can't hold a trial without the articles" of impeachment. So Jongsstraw is correct about no trial. But the Senate cannot dismiss all charges until there is a trial. So Jongsstraw is wrong about dismissal. There is a deadlock. Perhaps until the November election, 300 days away, which is time enough for Trump to go crazy about, for example, charges he is a tax cheater. Can't prove he is cheating until the Supreme Court rules that Trump has to keep his campaign promise to release his tax returns after the audit is completed -- the longest continuously running audit, starting sometime in the 1960's or 1970's, in American history. Or maybe Trump is lying about the audit? We have to wait for the Supreme Court to rule on Trump's lying.

The Trump we did not want to see

Jamelle Bouie writes:

Much of the work of H.P. Lovecraft, an American horror and science fiction writer who worked during the first decades of the 20th century, is defined by individual encounters with the incomprehensible, with sights, sounds and ideas that undermine and disturb reality as his characters understand it. Faced with things too monstrous to be real, but which exist nonetheless, Lovecraftian protagonists either reject their senses or descend into madness, unable to live with what they’ve learned.

It feels, at times, that when it comes to Donald Trump, our political class is this Lovecraftian protagonist, struggling to understand an incomprehensibly abnormal president. The reality of Donald Trump is evident from his decades in public life. But rather than face this, too many people have rejected the facts in front of them, choosing an illusion instead of the disturbing truth.

The past week has been a prime example of this phenomenon. On Thursday night, the United States killed Maj. Gen. Qassim Suleimani of Iran leader of the Islamic Republic’s Quds Force and one of the most powerful military leaders in the region. The strike was sudden and unexpected. The White House notified Congress only after the fact, with a brief, classified document.

The assassination of Suleimani was tantamount to a declaration of war and has escalated tensions between the United States and Iran. Tehran has already promised “harsh revenge” against the United States, while Trump said he would “HIT VERY FAST AND VERY HARD” if Iran made good on its threat, vowing an attack on “52 Iranian sites” including locations “important to Iran & the Iranian culture.”

This standoff, which in its latest incarnation saw Iranian missiles sailing toward bases in Iraq on Tuesday night, is so consequential that it’s been hard not to impute some logic to the president’s actions, even as many observers acknowledge the lies and dysfunction surrounding the attack. It’s only natural. As humans, we want to impose order on what we see. As Americans, we want to believe our leaders understand the gravity of war. Traditional news outlets published detailed descriptions of the president’s decision-making process. Sympathetic observers, like Matthew Continetti of the Washington Free Beacon, hailed the strike as a “stunning blow to international terrorism and a reassertion of American might.” Cable news analysts spoke as if this was part of a considered plan for challenging the Iranian government.

But we’ve learned since that the strike on Suleimani was almost certainly another impulsive action from an impatient president. When are we going to stop trying to rationalize the irrational?

Jesus Christ... Lovecraftian? Says a guy who never read anything by Lovecraft in his life.

I'm sure he's got a Cthulhu Funko Pop in his mom's basement where he wrote that story from.

I'll bet he saw Re-Animator once in a film class and thinks he knows all about Lovecraft.

Idiot.

I'm pretty sure you misunderstood: "impulsive action from an impatient president. When are we going to stop trying to rationalize this irrational president?" Need an example? From today:

This has nothing to do with Trump but everything to do with reduced tobacco smoking which causes lung cancer, bladder cancer, and many other deadly malignancies.

Here's a conspiracy theory for all you conspiracists. Trump assassinates an Iranian General. Iran responds by firing rockets at American military bases in Iraq.

While awaiting Trumps response to that a Ukrainian airliner takes off within Iran. A nervous Iranian military fires at the plane shooting it down killing 179 people thinking it's a missile their radar is tracking.

If this is the case, I blame Trump and his wag the dog bullshit.

Cancer decreased because Americans smoke less, but Trump took personal credit for cancer decreasing. Trump doing that means he is crazy. Being crazy is a perfectly good reason to kick him out. 6ix, pretending Trump is not crazy means you are fucked up. As I recall, 6ix smokes, which is further proof of him not being right in the head.

From a peak in 1991, cancer mortality has fallen “continuously through 2017,” the American Cancer Society reported,” resulting in an overall decline of 29%,” or an estimated 2.9 million fewer cancer deaths.

Impeachment Adds to a Long List of Trump’s Legal Headaches

Donald Trump’s Senate impeachment trial comes amid a long list of federal court cases that threaten to generate more trouble for him during the election year.

The impeachment trial starts as soon as next week, while the court cases are running on separate tracks. House committees are seeking his financial records, a New York prosecutor wants his income tax returns, and public officials and private watchdogs say he’s unlawfully profiting from foreign government business.

The House Judiciary Committee is suing to get the records of former Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation, and a court is being asked if former White House Counsel Don McGahn must testify.

Three of these cases will be considered by the U.S. Supreme Court in the spring.
