Its a species of flat fish that has a thumb shaped mark on its side that is supposed to be the thumb print of Jesus Christ.

I remember it because when I was in cornwall in a fish and chip shop the owner pointed it out to me and said in the strongest cornish accent:

I swear at the time it was the most surrealist thing...

Hee hee. Love that song! They used to play it on this funky NPR radio station in Philly Saturday nights when they played "kids music"(really fun stuff). My favourite verse has always been "It's life, Jim, but not as we know it." Just sooo funny.

I must admit I am very, very, very dubious about this crew idea.

First of all, the idea is presumably to get us to raise awareness and generate publicity for Serenity. Well, that's a bit of an affront to all those who have poured countless man hours into promoting the movie off their own backs. They know how they are, we know who they are, they don't need Universal to designate them 'Captain' to make them special. And they're already supported by the rest of us, sometimes in time, sometimes in cash, sometimes in just saying "well done".

Secondly, the Browncoat community is, by and large, a very united one. Compare it to other fandoms like Star Trek where the message boards can be incredibly hostile and pedantic. And now they want us to divide into tiny little groups and turn on each other? I know you think I'm overstating it but there's already been "digs" between Sean Harry's crew and the BBC crew. I'm certain it will instantly blow over but two groups who are to all intents and purposes identical seeing slights in each other's comments? Before they've even set one challenge?

Thirdly, what if the crews themselves fall apart. There are bound to be big crews that have 'dud' members or even perfectly decent members that are seen as 'duds'. Are they going to be made to walk the plank? How will they feel about the community if they're thrown out of their chosen subset.

This all smacks of a bad, bad idea. I could be wrong. Serenity Leader could turn up tomorrow with a series of delightful challenges that really push the crews to ever greater heights and build a wonderful lifetime bond between each set of thirty. I'd love to be proved wrong.

But, and forgive me for quoting another sci-fi franchise, I have a bad feeling about this.

How much excitement can I take in one day:

1. Shiny new trailer! (just downloading, haven't seen it yet.) Em - check out the UB site, "Trailer 2."

2. Emma's coming to England! Hurrah!

3. 4 page article in Dreamwatch with more to come next month!

BTW, PR not sure what's happening with Sean's crew as it says there's only 25 members (someone's jumped ship already) so why can't you be added? :( Someone's posted at the UB to query whether it's all working properly.
