Cat Lady
Friday, April 6, 2007

I know how it starts. You know the story - news at 11 - 29 cats removed from the home of an elderly lady. Well it didn't start out that way. Once she was a hot mom, just doin her thing and the kids talk her into a cat. Off to the shelter they go to pick one out. They enter a room with cages covering one wall and in each cage is a couple or so cats. Now these cats are smart, they have learned the "hey pick me pick me" manuever of sticking their wittle paws out of the cage and beckoning in a sad sort of way.

Now Hot mom was probably a sensitive sort of person and when the kids picked a cat out that was rooming with another simiarly sized cat, well the hot mom PROBABLY thought that you couldn't separate them. I mean hot mom probably had two boys and envisioned someone taking just one of the kids and leaving the other to lanquish lonely and pathetic in the cage. So the kids get a cat each and all is happy. I mean whats the big deal, you scoop poop for one anyway, so two wouldn't matter. Then as time goes along everyone is just amazed at how easy cats are. You put out enough little boxes, arrance for someone to put in fresh water and food and you can go away happy in the knowledge that the cats routine hasn't changed in your absence. And THATS when it happens. Once you are lulled into a sense of security. A sense of comfort in how easy the little buggers are, thats when they get you. Because one day someone you know will have a cat they can't keep so you will say sure I'll take it, I have two whats one more. And then there is the stray cat at work that looks cold in the winter, and the kitten that shows up in the yard. Soon there are 12 cats and if you are going to have 12 well whats one more?????!!!!!!!

So do not make fun of the dear old thing. She was young once, she was YOU once, and she got taken by the CATS.

BLUEEYEDBRIGADIER

Oh, I am sure you will be the Sophia Loren-style sexy ole coot with the 29 cats, FMF;)

And while I have a dog as of this moment, I sometimes think that a cat would have been a better investment, stress-wise...

CONSTANCE

well, i hope that doesn't happen if you take in rats...(pet rats not the ones that move in by themselves cause the sewer has become an unhealthy and criminal environment they don't want their kids to grow up in) I have no wish to become the rat lady...

CYBERSNARK

I sense that someone has taken her first steps into cat-tending.
