I am really annoyed
Wednesday, May 13, 2009

I've just been told (thanks to Ilaria at sn.tv) that a vid on youtube is using my wallpapers without crediting me.

This is the vid in question

I am getting sick to death of finding my art all over the web and I don't get any damned credit for it! Do people honestly think I won't find out. I've seen them all over, on myspace, on lj, on fan forums and it is seriously starting to piss me off.

Just one word of credit and I'd be happy but I've put far too much time and effort in these wallpapers/banners/avis to let this go lightly.

It makes me want to stop posting

Definitely a massively annoying-slash-saddening thing, hobbleit...I know that you put all kinds of effort into those wallpapers and then to have them nicked for use elsewhere without someone asking for your permission or giving credit? 500 miles of bad road...:(

HUGS oh sweety that's just awful... rotten thieves ruining everything. I wish there was some way to encode it so they couldn't use it without asking

I always sign my stuff but it is still annoying me. If no-one had told me I never would have known so I would never be credited for things that I spent quite a long time making.

I'm kind of someone on the exact opposite end of the spectrum, where I don't even put my name on my artwork. I figure, if someone wants to steal it, I'll never find out, and secondly, I'm not making money off of it, so it's not like I have to protect my living. I'd be more flattered than anything if someone stole my stuff.

But... It does seem to actually be a problem for you, and I guess if I saw my stuff EVERYWHERE, I might not be angry, but I'd definitely be weirded out. Do you put a watermark on your work, or sign it? Or maybe disclaimers, i.e. "I made this wallpaper, please give credit where it's due?"
