The Moment of Truth
Saturday, May 6, 2006

I was watching Serenity again and when it got toward the end I had a thought. What does Jayne feel at the news of Wash's death? So here. Really short. And, no, I guess I just won't stay away.

"Wait! Wash. Where's Wash?" Kaylee's voice held a note of desperation that was mirrored by the look on her face. All of them looked to Zoe.

"He ain't comin'." Zoe coolly loaded her gun. She looked up and the grim lines around her mouth were harsher than usual.

Kaylee's face fell. The others stared at Zoe in dismay. Jayne stood for a moment, holding the handle of a crate.

Ain't comin'. What does that even mean? Is he holding the back? No. The lines on Zoe's face. Wash had a knack of keeping them at bay… They are in full force. Wash is never coming.

In the split second that he pondered, Jayne saw Zoe falling. Failing. It was now up to him. Only he, in this moment, could hold things together. "Move the gorram crates!"

He had no chance to reflect on Wash for himself. Right now, he was just one less person to protect. Jayne's words spurred the others to action and relit the desperate fire in Zoe's eyes; the fire that only he could sense was on the verge of leaving. Now she was back. And Jayne could share the burden once more.

Nice little flicker of reaction for Jayne, taking up any slack and keeping it all together. Ali D :~)

The moment we all felt in excruciating detail... I'm glad someone took the time to highlight Jayne.

He's often seen as the least sensitive but I'm glad you explained his inner strength here.

Thanks for these grand reviews... I am particularly fond of this one... I seem to have a knack for writing Jayne. And a huge soft spot for Wash.

Memories of Snow
I never state the name, but it's an easy guess. It came to me after watching The Message. He talks about the dreams he had of his parents.

Momentum Chapter Three
Long-awaited continuation of a (still) unfinished tale. Wash centric. Read the first two chapters here: http://www.fireflyfans.net/bluesun.aspx?bid=10333 and here: http://www.fireflyfans.net/bluesun.aspx?bid=10354

Artist
A really short ficlet. Jayne's POV. (I'm writing again! Actually, I've just typed up some things I wrote during class last semester. I've a few more at http://www.fanfiction.net/u/652052/)

Betrayal
Mal's thoughts at Serenity Valley. Who's he most angry at, the Alliance or the Independents?

Smell
Inara reflects on the smell of Mal's browncoat. Very short, possibly will be continued.

Rocket
Wash-sadness. Zoe POV. I can't let the deathfic go.

Stranger
Watched the BDM. Got ideas. Wrote for the first time in a god bit. Mal, River, during the BDM.

Trip Wire
I watched the BDM today. This is a scene from it. Zoe's pov, dialogue from the script.

Stream
Yay! I wrote again. First in a long time. I think I wrote this from Kaylee's perspective, at least in Kaylee vernacular, but I'm not really sure why. I know it's short and prolly not very Kaylee, but I wrote. I also don't really know what it's about. Comment as you like.

The Chair (round 2)
Conpanion piece to my last post. Rive stream of consciousness. More post BDM Wash missing.
