BLUE SUN ROOM FAN FICTION - GENERAL
I think they're getting worse. Here's another snippet of Wash's past. I need an editor and more time... I really want to expand this tell stories add dialogue, but here's a preview.
CATEGORY: FICTION TIMES READ: 1757 RATING: 10 SERIES: FIREFLY
School was great. I'd always been schooled at home by my Mama and my Aunties. It was great to live and learn among so many people my own age who were interested in the same thing. Namely flying.
The first year of classes was comprised mostly of general subjects, that is, not specific to flying. During the first year I learned a great deal of history as well as math and physics. I didn’t mind the other classes that most of my classmates found useless. But I did, of course, prefer the classes that seemed more applicable.
My family, being a large and therefore, rather poor one, was not current on much technology. In school I learned about all the automations that rich people lived with. My first encounter with a flight simulator was a humorous one.
It was in school that I gained my nickname. It was customary for the instructors to call cadets by their last names. It was odd for me to be the only Washburne around. It had never before been that way. No one confused me for anyone else.
It was my roommate Rich who shortened my last name and called me simply 'Wash'. He said that single syllables were always best and that 'Ho' or 'Hobe' were useless as names. I didn’t mind getting a nickname. In fact, it made me feel very special indeed.
